He is being used as an example.

Flying a 249g plastic drone 100m above the Mersey is hardly the Hindenburg.

TBF, I think he flys as Mavic Pro 3, which is >249g so comes under commercial rules, which are much stricter than those on drones that are <249g. This may be why they have come down harder on him.

Isn't he only flying that at the moment because his bigger drones have been confiscated (ie. ones used when he got done)? That's what I understood anyway.

I can look at this two ways:
1. He's been called up on two of his flights out of his claimed several thousand that he's done.

2. He's probably constantly flown above allowed altitude and out of eyesight and is lucky to just be done for the two.

As an occasional drone user myself, I've ignored the rules on tons of occasions. I'd never fly over people while breaking rules or when within the exclusion zone of an airport, but I've definitely gone way too high on purpose before for better videos and allowed the drone to go out of eyesight and relied on my controller and GPS - as I'd imagine almost every hobby drone user has whether they'd admit it or not.

Seems like a £3000 fine and confiscation of numerous drones is extremely excessive though.

I thought ages ago that his understanding of the laws were a bit off anyway. He has mentioned a few times about flying 50m above the workers, so he's maintaining the 50m rule, but as far as Im aware, with regards ti people the 50m rule is horizontal, so there is no safe height at which to fly above non-participants. Anyway, I thought that ages ago, but seems a bit harsh to be coming down on him like this. I don't know any details though.. not watched one of his videos for years tbh.

Drone regulations also state no intentional flight over uninvolved persons.

Tbh I'm amazed that the regulations are so easy in the UK. Loads of restrictions in Europe like not flying over built up areas, not flying over nature reserves and not flying near historic buildings.

If he doesn’t pay the fine will he be knocking on his own door to retrieve it? 🤔

If he has, one more than one occasion, knowingly breached the regulations, then can he, we or anyone else be surprised he's been prosecuted?

It's all about risk and probability, and in this case he's fallen on the other side. Lots of people speed and drive dangerously, but not each instance is prosecuted.

That doesn't mean, nobody can be found guilty of the crime, and there will be those who find themselves in front of the bench. It is that which acts as the deterrent.

I hope he takes it on the chin and continues making the videos.

Think the least the good and sympathetic members of GoT can do to show solidarity with Mr Drone in his time of need and help pay the fines from this petty and pointless prosecution is to buy lots of merch from his store

Anyone?
Can we not just post a picture on Facebook. That`s how we all have been helping Ukraine the last 3 years.
