New Everton Stadium

The fella on the umpire chair said it was weight restrictions. Thats the only source we have for that reasoning. Everybody else has said its not, so I'll be guessing that its him that's wrong rather than Peel or the club. The road narrows as it leads onto the bridge, Im pretty certain that's the reason for the system.
Yes, weight is nothing to do with it. HGV's use that bridge all the time. The road narrowing is the reason. If people are filling the road plus pavements, plus bicycle lanes, then they obviously can't all fit through the narrower space on bridge at once, so it is a sensible precaution to control the flow.

Apparently, there's no problems with fans using the bridge. Doesn't explain though why the flow of people were staggered.

I assumed it was a crowd control measure, you’ve got people approaching a bottleneck. It happens at West Ham , Spurs and Wembley in my experience and I don’t think there’s a weight limit on the pavement of Seven Sisters road.

Yes, this was my suspicion.

The width of the channel more than halves, from 19m to 8m:

I don't think so.

It's already referred to as Everton Stadium more than Bramley Moore Dock. It was only BMD in our consciousness for about 3 years.

Nobody refers to Emirates as Ashburton Grove.

Lansdowne Road was one of the most historic sports grounds in Europe. It was there for 100+ years as the home of Irish rugby and then football. Nobody though it would be called anything else. Now its only referred to as The Aviva.

I’ve always liked the idea of “Company X Park at Bramley-Moore Dock.” This effectively gives club/fans the option of not using the garish corporate name while still making money off it.

For the Euros, UEFA won't use the corporate sponsor name, so they will have to use Everton Stadium at that point. This will be good publicity for the club, especially since the halfway line board will have 'Liverpool' on it as the host city.

Surely the solution then is to simply use barriers to filter foot traffic into the bridge from further back?
Now it’s known it’s not a weight issue, can’t see too many waiting for the Umpire to give his stop / go commands!

I did actually think, looking at that overhead pic, that there's quite a natural tapering, anyway. It's not like people are going to walk straight into perpendicular walls 10m wide.

Those pedestrian walkways were cordoned off for the test event.

I had thought, when visiting the site during the build, those pedestrian walkways would struggle with the footfall volume, as are just old wooden slats. But think they want to push the crowd just on the road, not the walkways.
