New Everton Stadium

WHP would be a nightmare from the car travel perspective. GP has the quickest road traffic dispersion rate in the PL (Police figures), presumably because there are roads in all directions going to and away from it. Consider WHP though. I'd assume the stadium itself would be on the Walton Hall Avenue side. There's only one way away -- that provided by Walton Hall Ave itself. There's no rail connections. It's a residential area, so there's no way there'd be on road parking permitted. And there's no car parking plots in the area either.

And it's on the wrong side of the East Lancs Rd, ffs it's nearly in Kirkby.........

And worrabout the pubs, eh, eh......

The Mail ? Then Talksport reporting what they've seen in The Mail ?

& we're gonna wait with baited breath for this to happen later this week ?

more chance of the woman opposite leaving the curtains open after a shower, and I know which 1 of the 2 I'll wait for 'just in case.'

Always a shame to be losing park land for development. Regardless of whether Goodison is turned into greenspace (doubt it), the fact is a community open space is being compromised. In a time when schools are selling off their playing fields for houses, parks really need to be protected

There's a massive car park at Walton Hall Park Leisure Centre, the proposed site of this new stadium - I've parked my car there for the last 15 years and walk from there to Goodison. The road itself is a straight run from there to the Showcase and the East Lancs Road, and on to the M57. It's easier to get away from there than it is from Goodison.

There was talk of re-opening the Walton & Anfield Railway station on the Canada Dock Branch line. The line is still active but used for goods trains. It would be situated opposite the Taxi Club. Existing Platform foundation still in place 150mts long. 5 mins walk to stadium. Next to local Police Station (less chance of vandalism). Exits onto Walton Lane dual carriage way.

It would be viable given Anfield will be 60000 capacity and the proposed new stadium 50000. That's an extra 30000 people travelling to games.

If they reopened the line, this is how it would be routed. You'd be able to get a train from the city centre, from Bootle, and from all the current places, such as Sandhills and Kirkdale. It would be ideal:

I feel a poll coming on ...

Its amazing how any news of a potential move away from Goodison brings back some particular members.

Always suspected a couple of them have business interests that benefit from their proximity to Goodison...

It doesn't matter what Bill Kenwright does because he will get slated by a percentage of the support base regardless. The same is true of every club. There will always be a reason to criticise.
The club is in a better place now than it has been in the last twenty five years , but BK will not be given any credit by some.

I believe we will get a stadium, but for many that won't be enough , it will be the wrong, shape, size or colour. It will be owned by the council or Tesco or somebody else and that will be a good enough reason to bitch.

But, I believe we will get a new stadium, the overwhelming majority will go there and support the team. They will miss Goodison ,as I will, the Grand Old Lady of British football. But unfortunately it is not fit for purpose anymore

Initially , I think the deal will be some kind of lease with ownership transferring gradually over time.
I go to lots of games and to different stadia. I am more interested in the team I follow rather than the ground they play in.
Any new stadium will take time to build up a bank of memories that Goodison has. But if a new stadium helps us to continue
to progress I will take that.
For some...there will be the added bonus that a new stadium will increase the chances that new owners/investors will come and they will then
have to find a whole new figure of hate after BK is gone.

Some of those criticisms may be entirely valid though, and the wrong decisions can have long lasting implications for the club. It was only a few years ago (during the Desperation Kirkby spin era) when the club had their puppets in the Liverpool Echo trying to convince us that the model being employed by Coventry City was the way for Everton to go. Well, the Coventry model worked out really well, didn't it? We are dealing with the same people who thought moving Everton to a shed outside of Liverpool was in the best interests of Everton Football Club!

It is the people inside a stadium that generate atmosphere. There are loads of examples of traditional stadiums with four separate stands having extremely poor atmospheres (including Goodison at times), and then there are plenty of examples of bowl stadiums having great atmospheres on occasions. It's the people inside the stadium that generate the atmosphere, not the stands.

We needed 30 million for Kings Dock, he said the money was ring fenced.

Bad choice of words by Bill Kenwright...what he meant was that the money was available from the financial institutions if they thought the deal was secure for Everton. And they didn't. So what has happened is that the phrase 'ring fenced' has become the stuff of Everton legend/folklore.
Now just watch what happens on here.....;)

Goodison Park also only has 39,000 seats. Fairly sure that has something to do with quicker traffic dispersion rates. It also has poor public transport links with the nearest train station being a good 10 minute walk away.

Moving a mile down the road isn't going to massively change things in that respect.

And if somebody gave me the choice of staying at Goodison or moving to a new stadium but having to wait an extra 15 minutes in the car to get out after the game i know which option i'd go for.
