I've never bought into ideological football. To me, pragmatism is necessary in every walk of life. He is a brilliant pragmatist. Ideologues creep me out. We had that with Roberto, and the evangelical glaze in his eyes as he described Aiden McGeady as "phenomenal." Ancelotti made a career out of pragmatism. He could play football with the best of them, but knew how to turn a game when, potentially, out-gunned. Mourinho is similar.
I want winning football - not beautiful football. If we can have both, so much the better, but that's merely a bonus. A manager like Mourinho will demand good players. Even if he sets up pragmatically, he will have technical players on that pitch, fellas who can mix it as well as play. We're used to donkeys in recent years at Everton. But donkeys don't win derbies (well, maybe occasionally).
