Well, we've just gone Benitez-Lampard-Dyche so I for one amn't turning my nose up at one of the most successful managers in European football.

carlo is one of the best managers in the world but he still lost 1-0 to an already relegated sheffield united at home that finished 20th with 23 points and -43 goal difference

so don't expect any miracles from jose

My top five essential criteria for selecting the new manager…

1) Is not a Ginge.
2) Does not wash his face with his own snot.
3) Does not over employ the words Noise, Moments or Grass in conversation.
4) Does not sound like Bonnie Typer gargling a pint of goat Jizz.
5) Does not have crippling anxiety & palpitations when his team cross into the opposition half.

We're in no position to turn our noses up at Mourinho. My God, we should be down on our knees at the prospect of being managed by a true great.

Had we these owners and stadium when Carlo was here, we'd be in clover.

If we can get Mourinho, we'd be nuts not to go along for the ride and demand that the Friedkins learn from their mistakes with him at Roma.

I agree completely. TFG have worked with him and know him. If they bring him in we have to trust in them. Far better than Southgate or Ten Haag

Exactly.

When you've been one of the all-time great managers, winning a few pots and finishing second in the league (as he did with United and as he currently is with Feberbahce) is deemed falling off a cliff.

If Everton succeeded as much as Mourinho failed, we'd be a superclub.

Yeah I do t see it happening but thinking he's not still a very very good manager is stupid, he's outperformed the recent form for managers he's replaced and whom subsequently followed at all recent clubs for example.

Same as the negative footy thing gets thrown at him - it's negative in terms of what sours fans seem to want or united for example which is a return to Hoddle and Ozzie, or prime Ferguson's united. Is it negative compared to what we've witnessed under Koeman, Allardyce , Benetez and now Dyche - nope it's simply effective counter attacking footy which he brought to a new level actually and lots imitated after

That doesn’t mean he’s the right option for us

Right now we need someone who is either sensible, forward thinking, or both

Mourinho is neither

He’s a psycho who lives in the short term and inevitably flames out after a couple of seasons

We’re only just coming out of a period of sustained turmoil

Mourinho will launch us back into it

I’m sad to say it, but right now we need someone safe, sensible and boring who is going to get us chugging along in mid table for a bit until we can make the appointment that’s going to take the club forwards

That doesn’t mean I’m “turning my nose up” or that I don’t think Mourinho is good enough to manage Everton (although that is 100% what I’ll be accused of, because the internet)

It just means that I think right now, in the January of 2025, Jose Mourinho and Everton are a terrible fit

In the past it might have worked, and maybe even in the future, but not right now

I feel like a Mourinho appointment taps into the same delusional hope that we experienced with Dele.

It's a glamorous appointment but based on his recent track record is a HUGE gamble.

He's very clearly on the decline and has a HUGE ego.

It's a Moshiri kind of appointment.
