New manager

A lot depends on what the new owners want to do really. And that's why to some extent it's a bit futile saying what type of manager you want until you know the plan.

Like their view might be, that they are going to be aggressive in the transfer market, and buy better players and a bit like how we did under Ancelotti look to rise up the table quickly. Before he lost heart, and RM turned his head we were in the top 4.

And that was 12 months after being in the bottom 3 under Silva. There's this myth (amongst many myths) that it's impossible to move a lot quickly. Forest have shown that to be totally untrue this season. Villa did it the year before. Like Villa basically just got a strong manager, gave him a load of money and let him get on with it. We did it with Carlo.

The issue becomes, of you can't match that spending, and they get frustrated. That would be the big challenge with a Mourinho.

But honestly, Ancelotti had Calvert Lewin in the England squad looking like he could get 20 a season. There's no doubt whatsoever that the best managers can make a huge difference to the players they have.

We won at Anfield at a canter, with Holgate, Keane and Godfrey in a back 3 being protected by Tom Davies.
And finished lower than we had under Silva.

Newcastle did the same

I want Jose. I’ve always wanted Jose.

His relationship with TFG complicates things. He said they “know little about football” when he left Roma.

He doesn’t want to be in Turkey, he’s constantly calling the league “toxic” and “corrupt” and has already said he wants to be back in England.

Him calling the Reds all sorts in the build up to a Derby win would be superb and you know it

But that's not relevant at all is it? Like not even a little bit. Neil Lennon has a win percentage of 56.45% and has won 12 trophies, shall we get him in? Mourinho has managed a load of clubs who are expected to win trophies and have a recent record of doing it, he's been very good at getting that extra couple of percent out of them for a short period and winning stuff before it unravels quite quickly after. He has no record at all of doing what we would need from him. He took over a Roma side which had finished 7th with 62 points the season before and led them to 3 consecutive 6th place finishes all with 63 points. He's now at Fenerbahce who finished 2nd last year, 3 points behind the winners having lost 1 league game all year, and halfway through the season is 8 points behind having already lost twice. This idea that he's some sort of unstoppable winning machine is over a decade out of date, he's managing in a backwater league for a reason.
I hate that we have become used to not winning. Its accepted! How do we create a winning mentally? It starts at the top. Winners breed the mentally required. Dyche, all credit to him for the job he's done, but he will never be a winner.

Mourinho is a marmite manager, some love him and some hate him, but it can't be denied that he is a winner. He might be in backwater league right now, but he is winning there too. Can we do better? It's not like we have a queue of top class managers lining up to manage Everton. Realistically beggers can't be choosers, and if Mourinho wanted to come to us, he'd be a massive upgrade, not just on Dyche, but our last few managers.

Whilst I agree with your overall point I do think James had a huge effect on everyone in that team. When he got injured and was unavailable Calvert Lewin didn’t look anywhere near as good. The win at Anfield whilst the defence was expertly marshalled it was the moment of quality with the through ball that set it all up.

I’ve seen Calvert Lewin put unstoppable performances in under Silva Ferguson Ancelotti Lampard Dyche but also seen him just walking around mistiming jumps and balooning tap ins.

He’s an inconsistent player and if he can only find that best form with one of the best number 10s in the world behind him then it’s unlikely we’ll have that for a while.

Mourinho would hopefully get more out of every player but I’d be amazed if any new manger hung their hat on Calvert Lewin any more, he’s had a wonderful opportunity here to play first team PL football almost uncontested every season for how many years now and in my opinion he’s taken that for granted far too much.

Yes we fell away didn't we, but I think we got higher points. I think we fell away as he could see PSR coming and RM coming too.

The wider point is though, that there's not 1 fixed away to do things. And until we know what TFG are trying to do, it's a bit difficult to say who would or wouldn't fit.

Also Ancelotti was a bad fit IMO, but he got a lot more out of the players.
