New Shirt Sponsor

I'd prefer us not to have a gambling company as the main sponsor but ethical concerns don't account for all of that opinion.

We're not in range for any blue-chip sponsorship deals so we're in the bracket essentially where it's a buyer's market for the potential sponsor.

I'd prefer a higher value gambling sponsor to a lower value non-gambling sponsor. It's the club that has made the issue of this in the main and so on them to deal with any fall-out. We can't be martyrs here, and our previous association with USM was open to many questions on any ethical or moral front. It's far from ideal if it comes to pass but in the overall scheme of things, if it's the best that the club can do, they'll take it.

There was a good suggestion earlier in the thread that we persue the global companies with a presence in the area, for example Jaguar. That idea has a lot of merit but probably not feasible as these decisions are not generally taken at local level.

We share a league with clubs owned by despot regimes and murderers.

Honestly couldn't care less who sponsers us so long as we get enough dough in to remain competitive.

We've already been shafted by the UK Government and used as political pawns losing tens of millions of USM sponsership money.

Not true it was all down to Putin invading Ukraine.

Whataboutery.

Betting firms are are grubby and I’d rather not have one on our shirts. That has no bearing on my revulsion towards the murderous Saudi regime.

I'd agree but maybe we can only actually name them when cazoo has finished? I don't know just guessing but surely our CEO wasn't telling porkies?
There's huge speculation that the new main sponsor is another betting/gambling organisation - if true, it will fly in the face of HER statements at the last Philharmonic Hall AGM where she stated the club would move away from such sponsorships.

I've no doubt that whenever the new deal is announced, it'll be a "record deal" but, that could be somewhat ambiguous as we never knew the full value of the Cazoo deal that was originally intended to be for three years.
It was the club who executed the cancel option after 2 years not Cazoo.

I don't think in the long run we will lose that money.
Clever money people have clever ways of getting money to go where it needs to go to.
Wouldn't be surprised if we get some "other" sponsorship soon.

I didn’t say it was.

I’m morally opposed to betting companies, not people that bet.

I’m not asking you to agree with my views - but to question why other people might feel this way says more about your apparent amorality than anything else.
Are you also opposed to banks, if so where do you keep your money?

I dont know 'stake' and Id like to see the terms first if it is them.

But if its substantially higher than USM (as has been claimed) then i was wondering why people would be against it?

Its not like having it on a shirt means much. Did anyone use KEIJIAN when they sponsored us...or drink CHANG outside of the ground as they sponsored us?

Doubtful.

Surely DBB would need to fall on her sword though...

I'm not saying you are wrong but have you got an article to where she said that?

All I can find is stuff like this.

“In an ideal world moving forward we would look to have a different type of sponsor on the front of our shirts like all football clubs would, but that is a commercial decision that we make as a football club."

And from an article in the Guardian

"Although the club has not committed to ending gambling sponsorships, given Barrett-Baxendale’s remarks at the AGM it must be considered unlikely that the main sponsor from next season will be a betting company."

Sanderson, Dagenham Motors, Sega, Crown Paints, Sharp, Holsten.

Pay attention mate.

Most appropriate shirt sponsorship of all time.

I'm not asking for an audit of my morality from you, thank you.

I'm not a vegan or vegetarian, I'm not anti-nuclear power or anti-capitalism - or plenty of other things that many find morally reprehensible.

But I respect the views of people that are.

People care about gambling's impact on society. People have lost loved ones to gambling.

You don't have to agree, but you ought to respect other people's right to oppose Everton having a gambling sponsor.

Okay, she said 'ideally' we would move away from betting/gambling sponsorships.

But, bear in mind that was over two years ago !!!
And if we go with another betting/gambling company for next season - it suggests to me that as CEO overseeing all commercial activities, she and the Commercial Dept are incapable of 'selling' the club to other than betting/gambling outfits.

She and the CD have had plenty of time to scour the globe for new sponsors and if they are falling back on an industry that EitC - her former domain - works incredibly hard to help people wean themselves away from, then again, it suggests a serious shortfall in her and the staff who report to her to actually do their jobs competently.

What about if people had lost loved ones to alcohol and don't want it sold in the ground? Would you support that?
