If you play 3 in the middle then surely two of them need to actually be decent with the ball at their feet? Can’t see any of them with that.

They're not that bad on the ball. I think it's an adequate set of players. Their ability level isn't the issue for me.

Newcastle look like they have an extra man on the pitch and are far more inventive, particularly at set pieces. Once we cross the halfway line, we look absolutely toothless. I'd go 4-4-2 and bring Maupay on to support DCL and Garner as an extra bod in midfield. Gray and Gordon give us nothing.

The widemen are the ones letting us down most by creating absolutely nothing. So many opportunities to pass forward but ignoring it to pass sideways or back, or just misplacing simple passes when they do try. Simply need to do much, much better.
