Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Hands up lads, who’d sing When the Spurs Go Marching In to wind up Arsenal fans?
Several years ago, they beat Sunderland at home and for large sections of the crowd and in the bars afterwards the chant was ‘I’d rather be a p*** than a makem’ Not just a small minority btw. I could hear it being sung walking through the town afterwards.

I'm a Celtic fan and I heard that but with "Than a Brit" a lot in the 90's. never hear it now up there but yeah that was sung a lot, especially at aways. Disgusting.

Why wouldn’t I just sing a song that takes the piss out of Newcastle if I wanted to do that? Why would I sing another team’s song? Because I’m not a big fat weird slug.
Because they didn't have songs about Everton I'm assuming. I can't think of any. They did it to wind you up, and given you're still banging on about it 6 years later, I'm sensing it worked all too well.

I'm "banging on about it 6 years later" because this conversation is specifically about Newcastle fans' love-in with Liverpool you confused man.

Do you often sing Spurs songs at Arsenal fans mate? Did you sing Forever Blowing Bubbles at Millwall fans when you were in the Coca Cola Championship?

I think they have some interest, just not the level if interest showed by owners such as City, Everton or Chelsea.

I think its peripheral to them. Similar to lots of other sports. They will dip their toe in, with a "westerner" who they trust to run things. I think they see a potential to make money from it, so it's worth the risk. You have to watch the pennies though, if it's an investment. Someone works out the expenditure spent, the potential income and the risk.
Of course it's peripheral to them, I don't think anybody is anticipating Mohammed Bin Salman to be paying us much notice. Not like he's going to be watching from the stands or owt. I don't think the investment arm of the Saudi Royal family would buy a Premier League club for it to muddle around midtable with little investment. They'll want it to progress, they'll want something to show off. That won't come without consideration, or investment.
