Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Money talks, no one has expected city and United to be where they are now 10 years ago

Manchester City are located in Manchester, a city which has significant pull for footballers due to it's footballing history and is known worldwide for it's cultural exports. International footballers have plyed their trade there for decades. Even if you were sceptical, then you get showed round the stadiums and facilities and they would be somewhat reassuring.

Who outside of the UK has even heard of Newcastle?

10 years ago United were in the same financial position they are today, nothing really has changed for them bar personnel

City had already been spending for 2 years by 2010, they ended their trophy drought the following year then won the title the year after that

If any team has changed dramatically it’s your boys, going from title bottlers, 7th place finishes to actually gettting a team capable of winning trophies regularly

I know some of their fans can be like Kopites, but the premier league is a better place for having Newcastle in it. It might just be personal preference but watching Everton play Burnley Huddersfield Blackpool Brighton etc. holds no real interest for me. You expect to win against these teams every time home and away and if you don’t it’s just disappointment. The reason why the premier league became so popular is because at one point you had teams like Newcastle Villa Leeds Nottingham Forest Leicester Sheffield Wednesday all with very very good players. Going away to a premier league team was very difficult as seen by our record at Elland Road and St James’ before Moyes arrived. We’re absolutely abysmal now yet even we’ve won loads at St James’ due to how torrid Newcastle have been.

I want a premier league where we and those teams ive mentioned are a lot stronger and City Liverpool Chelsea are a lot weaker. It should be a challenge to go to any of those grounds, not like it is now where City or Liverpool can rock up at any ground in the league and win 5-0 if they want. It’s far more exciting watching an Everton team go to St James’ against a strong Newcastle team where there’s something on the game and it’s a challenge to win than to watch two bottom half tin pots slug it out in a nothing game that neither set of fans can get excited about.

The current premier league is complete rubbish. It used to be that even the poorer teams each had star players that the bigger teams would be desperate for. Southampton has Le Tissier, Newcastle had Shearer, Villa Dion Dublin, Paula Di Canio at West Ham, we had Ferguson Kanchelskis, Leeds had Viduka. Most of these players at any point had they wanted to leave their clubs United would have gleefully snapped them up. Now you have a situation where the best players outside the top 6 would struggle to make the bench of the top teams, and there’s some sides (like the current Newcastle one) who you honestly wouldn’t even want a single player from.

Stronger teams, more competition, less of the joke procession for the Sky media darlings.

I appreciate your sentiments but I want them to be relegated forever until they are playing Byker Rehabilitation Centre’s B-team in the Newcastle and surrounding district league sponsored by Whey Aye Man Paints.

And who do we play every week then? 12 fixtures a season we can get absolutely battered by sides miles better than us then for the other 26 fixtures we can scrape to dull meaningless wins against teams who have also been battered by those top 6 sides and we’ll have great trips to places like the Amex, the Vitality, the John Smith’s, the DW stadium. I know it’s snobby of me but these teams are rubbish and offer nothing to the premier league. Give me big teams at big stadiums with big players facing off every week that’s what you want to see, not Liverpool vs Huddersfield town, it’s an embarrassment.

Is there not an argument though, say Huddersfield, who had a big tradition, some great teams in the past, title winners before Newcastle have been deserve a place ahead of Newcastle. They just don't shout it from the rooftops as much?

But we’re not going to have 20 boss teams in the Premier League are we? And if there was we’d probably get relegated.

What you’re describing there sounds a bit like a “super league”.

To be fair , if we could actually do this, we'd be on 78 points and playing CL football most seasons
