Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

But we’re not going to have 20 boss teams in the Premier League are we? And if there was we’d probably get relegated.

What you’re describing there sounds a bit like a “super league”.

Not 20 boss teams, just a league where two teams aren’t able to go almost three seasons unbeaten only really losing to each other. Where any team at home thinks they have a chance against anyone not wondering whether you’re going to be beaten 5-0 again. A league where the winners are pushing 80 points not dropping 5 points in a whole season.

Is there not an argument though, say Huddersfield, who had a big tradition, some great teams in the past, title winners before Newcastle have been deserve a place ahead of Newcastle. They just don't shout it from the rooftops as much?

oh absolutely. It’s purely my preference only. Teams that are in the prem are there because they deserve to be and are better than the ones who aren’t. There’s no denying that. I just prefer to play bigger teams with bigger followings in big stadiums who have a chance of actually shaking up the prem rather than the teams who come up and are just complete cannon fodder.

Cant see it happening but imagine if they did do a Man City and every season it was the battle of the arab oil states for the PL Title - how garbage and boring the league will be.

Said it a while ago but Man City marked the death of English football and anything that follows is just another nail in the coffin before most fans pack it in.

I'm not sure how, they may have spent a fair bit over the years but they tend to stick to around the £50/60m mark as a max for players unlike Man U and the RS who will break transfer records to get players they want. We are just as bad, we have paid over the odds for players time and time again and bought players we did'nt need. The PL is it's own worst enemy and it needs major changes in the way it's structured, part of me would actually like to see it collapse as i don't like what it is at the moment.

Aye the elite clubs and the CL have ruined the competitiveness- but I dont see how anyone can compete long term with state backed clubs.

Its like Boris buying a PL club and using the states wealth to prop it up - how is that fair?

He’s on about when City were first taken over and were buying first team players from the likes of Arsenal and United despite finishing 10th.

I've been listening to Talk Sport and Shay Given apparently believes that Newcastle will rival City or something along those lines.*

*It may not have been that exact message but I couldn't hear properly over my own laughing.

The only positive thing from all of the media overhype is that the pressure will be massive on the new owners / players from their fans for instant success / big signings.

If they go down the same road we did signing overpriced tosh they'll be tears flowing and horses being strangled down that way.

No it's probably not fair but it's more about what you actually do with the money, look at PSG being state backed has done them no favours whatsoever, they still can't get very far in Europe despite having a team full of great players on high money. Being able to buy players is one thing, buying the right players and getting them to play in a team is a different thing altogether.

As much as I don't think it's 'fair', City have been operating on a far more expansive model than anyone else. They have a network of 'City' clubs around the world and have invested in the best of infrastructure and facilities for City. They made money out of the City investment and will continue to do so. FFP for them is a joke concept as their owners are making it run like a well run business that would stand on its own merits and not just in footballing terms.
