Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Staveley has been begging all over the middle east looking for backing to buy Newcastle for a couple of seasons. Shes finally got the Saudis to help her but also needing the Reuben Bros to also get the deal done ... Well almost

Maybe its wishful thinking here but despite the wealth of both her backers I dont think they'll be doing a Man City shes came out in the past during failed takeovers saying they will be run like a business

I remember when QPR were technically the richest club in the UK and couldn't get out of the championship.

Fact is there is more to success then throwing money at a team. I think we're living proof of that. Even if Newcastle takeover happens (which is still not certain) and the club is given a blank cheque (which I very much doubt is the case) they are starting from scratch as a club.

What I've never understood about Newcastle is this myth that they are never backed by Ashley. When over the last 5 years they've spent over 311m on transfers and one of those season they were in the championship. Of course they've had to sell but so has everyone.

They don't have a basis to build a top side around. Getting the basic building blocks to start building a side around is were the challenge will be for me. While having to deal with ffp, no European football, no brand recognition, not being a attractive place to live and Steve Bruce as manager doesn't exactly have me believing there going to take over the prem next season.

They did manage to get good players to sign for them when they nearly won the league twenty odd years ago. If they were able to again spend big money it is possible they could attract them again?
Also, i think getting rid of Brice would be high on the agenda.

The lure of big wages hasn't. If they were able to somehow throw big money around, the better calibrate of players will come, same at Everton.

Not easy to do with FFP though mate.

Unless they get around it with dodgy sponsorships like we are trying to I cant see how they'll spend big.

For me this is all about Staverley seeing Newcastle as a cash cow and needing backing to buy the club - I dont see them spending silly money.

The Saudis could just buy them outright without her otherwise or Bin Salman would use his own wealth if he wanted a play thing rather than an "asset".

My replies were more of a continuation of replying to someone's post a page or two back who said it's impossible to attract players upto Newcastle and that I think big money on wages, would like 20 years, make it possible IMO ;)

They can spend big wages same as everyone can spend big on wages. We have the likes of sandro on over 100k a week and Bournemouth had Defoe on 150k a week.

West ham have been paying players crazy wages for years and are a London based club. It takes more then money to get top players in.

players care about 4 things. Money, location, playing in Europe and manager.

As I wrote, if they do get the horrible owners in and manage to be able to spend big money, players of a higher ability will come and Bruce will quickly be gone.
Wages, the ability to sign other good players for the chance to then play in Europe, the new manager, will all be part of the attraction which will make the cold be well worth it for a few years if they earn the wonga?
Let's hope finding a way of cheating fair play doesn't happen because teams can get better/get into Europe by buying well.

Creates a mercenary type mentality when you do that though and if they can't be arsed it then means you just end up paying them until their contract ends. Actually hinders more than helps unless you can get a lot of decent players in one hit so the others believe they can get success with that club.

We have had that a number of times now. Pay massive wages from the off and they are on easy street regardless.

Yes, it has to be done over a few years. Bottom line it's all about buying well and because they won the lottery and after a fair few mistakes/mercenaries, that's eventually what City managed to do.
It can be done (if allowed?)

Well we all bloody hope so else it is going to be one hell of a boring time for the 90% of supporters who don't support city or the RS. :)

But it appears much harder now because of FFP, City could just rattle through the bad buys with more players and more importantly not have to sell one of the key players just to satisfy the rules to correct mistskes. Like you say it is about buying well, having an actual plan and not buying players just for the sake of it, but because they fulfill a missing part of the team/squad. Yes you heard Steve Walsh, thanks for nothing...

I didn't say I WANTED financial fair play scrapped :p .
In all seriousness, no, I don't want it scrapped because Spurs will never be able to catch up (or will probably fall further behind?)
