Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

The buyer didn't give a damn about Newcastle, forget the words and look at the actions. Spent months if not years haggling over the price, played it all out in public, wanted to borrow money (from Ashley) to pay for their share as they wanted to put so little in, worked alongside a woman in Stavely who has been outed as a complete fantasist and liar and saw it as primarily and singularly an investment. In all likelihood you'd have been worse off than you are under Ashley who have given managers hundreds of millions. Maybe focus on giving him a fair crack of the whip going forward eh?

Stavely as well as negotiating and brokering the deal has been the regime's 'useful idiot' to give the veneer of respectibility and legitimitacy the Saudi's desperately needed to get as far as they did. In the end the cover wasn't enough as the fault lines were just too apparent. The premier league at no point felt giving the go ahead was in their interests or the right thing to do, rather the complete opposite, but had to legally find a reason for preventing it.

It was an imposibility to sign off something that had worked so openly against your own interests and banned other neighbours who had negotiated and paid for those legitimate rights in the far east, from broadcasting within your borders. How on earth could they think this might go unnoticed? It didn't and it wasn't. The premier league's rights in that part of the world had been interfered with and compromised, their interest was clearly and directly opposed to that of the Saudi ruling family's and they were probably relieved that the buyers took the decision for them in the end, but the delay told the real story plainly enough. It was the alleged influence of the regime over PIF, something denied by the bidders, which was the issue, as if there was a connection then the piracy issue becomes even more worrying. They almost certainly knew there was a connection or direct influence even if it would have been hard to legally prove.
In the end circumstances and delay worked well for them and the buyer's withdrawal neatly took the problem away.

Can anyone rationally explain the hatred for Ashley?

For the last 3 years they've spent about double the money that their player sales have brought in.

He brought them their beloved "Rafael" (who it turns out is no better than Steve Bruce and plays WORSE football) and kept him for a bit.

He hasn't saddled them with debt like the Glazers or Hicks & Gillette as far as I'm aware?

I ask as I've taken absolutely no interest in Newcastle as a club in 10 years as they are an absolute insignificance.

Good away day though, Geordies and OTT policing aside.

Because with him they've never been fighting toe to toe for the league title, just like they always used too.
