Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Rafael - 10th and 13th in Premier League
Bruce - 13th and 12th

Rafael - 42.5% win rate
Bruce - 28.9% win rate.

Rafael - - 7 mil net spend in 3 seasons.
Bruce - +94 mil net spend in 3 seasons.

Bruce signed off on Joelinton. It was his first transfer decision.
1) Same points per season, positions rely on other clubs, points is the measure as it reflects your own performances.

2) Benitez win rate includes a season in the championship after he got relegated. We know championship is a lower standard and he out spent all but like 1 championship team that window. So it's not comparable.

3) Net spend means nothing, we have proven that as a club so couldn't really care less about it.

4) No, Ashley even came out and said joelinton was his signing. It was agreed while benitez was at the club but benitez didn't want him which was part of the issue leading to him leaving as Ashley wanted to spend the budget without his approval.

these are the same fans who booed and spat on Bobby Robson before getting him fired btw, Bruce didn’t stand a chance. especially once their already heightened sense of self importance increased exponentially with the arrival of their saudi blood money - all the best to him, seemed like a decent enough bloke. hope he cost their new owners an arm and a leg (not literally)

Position is more important than points. You could have less points than the season before, but finish higher in the league.

I think that's a disservice to the championship, its well regarded as a hard league to compete in, not every team which goes down, comes back up. A lot of teams in the championship have spent a lot of money and not been promoted. Newcastle didn't spend the most most money and were in a negative net spend that season after selling their best players.

Of course net spend matters. Its more important than overall spend. Its how business works.

Joelinton wasn't agreed whilst Rafael was at the club, he was offered to Rafael, Rafael said no and wouldn't sanction the deal. Joelinton was then offered to Bruce who signed off on the deal.

Position is more important, but points is more reflective of your own performance.

Again, they sold a couple of their best players and reinvested that money heavily. And were the 2nd highest spenders in the league, with a team that narrowly got relegated so could compete with other PL teams.

I'm not.a business man, and don't care about the business elements of football. But they were each given similar amounts to spend, regardless of players being sold.

So, what you are saying was, Ashley wanted Joelinton, Benitez didnt want him, so it contributed to him leaving the club, and Ashley then signed joelinton. You really believe that Ashley would have taken no as an answer from Bruce?

Feel sorry for Bruce. Him and benitez records in the PL were the same. (Ignoring the season benitez got relegated with them).

44 points first season, 45 points second season.

Bruce spent £126m in just over 2 years. (40m of which was joelinton which wasn't even his signing as he joined the week Bruce signed and had been agreed before he took over).
Benitez spent £153m in just over 3 years.
So Bruce backed with slightly more on average but not much in it. .
(This is according to their purchased players on transfermarkt)

Yet Bruce gets loads of abuse and benitez is a saint to them.
The way they worship the fat man is utterly bizarre. Especially given the way they treated the legendary Bobby Robson, who was a Geordie to boot.

I mean, it’s not like Benitez was even particularly good for them, and his “football” was atrocious.

Bruce gave an interview in which he said he signed off on Joelinton, saying he had overall say on transfers and wouldn't have agreed to go there if he didn't.
