Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Going to be a interesting summer watching them spend for the next stage, they will be around 8th place next season especially with the fantastic Dan Ashworth as DoF.

They will get at least 3 new defenders, couple of midfielders, new #9 and a wide player in summer for around £200-£250 million, they won't ever be in a relegation battle ever again under PIF.

What will you do when they start challenging for titles, will you come on here and complain about sportwashing and petro dollar like you do with City despite running around your living room celebrating the Aguero moment not even a decade ago?

They werent in a relegation battle before PIF for a few years as well to be fair.

Let's see. I see them as lower than 10th if they keep adding your Burns, Targetts, Woods etc. They are not top 8 players.

Still plenty of time for them to be lured back into the relegation quagmire. Trippier, by far their best player, will be an incredible loss for them. If he misses 8-10 games that could well and truly send them spiralling again. He's scored 2 goals already and is arguably also their second best attacking player when you consider they only really have Saint Maximan, as Wood doesn't score goals. Take away Trippier's free kicks and assists and they suddenly become very, very average again.

No denying that we're far from being out of the woods, but you're doing a few players a disservice there. Fraser, Willock and Joelinton (particularly the latter, to an outrageous extent) have all improved, without being especially potent in an attacking sense. Meanwhile at the back we're improving and have made good signings in addition to Trippier in Targett and Burn (Burn was excellent yesterday). Wood is a worry and clearly a downgrade on Wilson, but at least occupies the CBs.

We're still not out of the quagmire, let alone liable to get dragged back in. But we're not totally useless; Eddie Howe has done a good job of building a structure and fostering an intensity that was horribly lacking prior to his arrival. I think we'd be 11th if the season started when he came in, so it hasn't exclusively been the signings - though obviously they've had a positive impact.

But aye, gutted about Trippier.

I mean, Joelinton looks massively crap still so if that's an improvement I'd hate to think how grim he was week in week out beforehand.

lol He absolutely doesn't look crap in the slightest. He's consistently been one of our best players in a box-to-box midfield role since Howe came in; his defensive work very much his biggest asset atm. Very neat footwork and very difficult to get the ball off, whilst positionally getting himself in the way to make interceptions etc. Sadly he just goes to pieces in the box; Bruce never quite got his head around it, despite him only scoring 6 in 69 games and looking an utter carthorse up top. He's been a revelation in midfield, though.

Mate, he's like Carlton Palmer crap.

Bought as a striker, can't finish. Stuck in midfield and still looks turd.
