Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

To be fair, I have said that to a few of my geordie mates that they will turn on Howe in the next year if he doesn’t keep them competing and if they struggle in Europe and are faltering in the league, he will be gone.

I don’t think they will compete with city. And arsenal are also ahead of them. But I can’t see Liverpool or spurs making a concerted effort for top 4 next year, they both need complete squad revamps. So another push for top 4 is well within question for them.

It's the way I see it too.

City have spent a net of £2billion in 10 years (dodgily so). So thinking Newcastle are gonna get close to them after 1 good season cos they've got a gulf state bankrolling them in this climate...it's not gonna happen.

They need to dope their commercials
Consistent Champions League football
Win a goblet
And have no hiccups....just to get near Spurs IMO

Until 2019 yes. But as it’s done over 3 year cycles now it doesn’t matter what they did 10 years ago.

This is what some people forget when discussing Newcastle. The forward line already in place when Howe rocked up? Joelinton Wilson Almiron - Newcastle paid best part of 90 mill for those 3. Willock was 20 mill. They’d spent a bit of money before they even started opening the purse strings under the new owners. None of those players were bad players they were just being managed by Steve Bruce.

Newcastle have already got back £15m from Wood and a few £m for Shelvey. Other fringe players will have to go. Champions league qualification will be worth £20m-£30m and extra £32m if they finish 4th and sponsorship, the clubs majority of sponsorship was pretty much just sports direct for free. This season I believe the sleeve sponsor is actually bringing in more than the main shirt sponsor Fun88 which runs out this season. They will get major sponsorship deals with being in the CL. It’s wishful thinking that they won’t spend

Yep, 9 of the team were there before Howe, just shows how a decent Manager can get a tune out of players

Saudi Airlines are rumoured to be the next shirt sponsors at 40 million per season

Where are you getting your figures from? Because that figure of 2 Billion is complete fantasy. We haven't spent that much gross, never mind net. Total transfer expenditure for the last ten years is under 1.7 billion and that's in Euros not Sterling. If you deduct sales from that it is a shade under 1 billion.
A vast amount of money, but half of you are claiming.

Have city made any terrible expensive mistakes? Cant think of many of top of head

Wasn't that pre-Sheikh?

What a bizarre career Santa Cruz has had by the way - he's still playing age 63 or something lol
Just after the takeover. Hughes had a brilliant window when he had no money. Kompany and Zabba both brought in for next to nothing the day before the takeover in 2008, RSC was bought in 2009.
Bony and Mangala were both big money flops too. More recently Mendy, but less said about him the better.

It shows how Everton fans underestimate other teams players and overestimate our own.

Our first choice front three this season of McNeil/Iwobi Calvert Lewin Gray costs about 25 mill combined. Newcastle’s front three cost 90 mill and that’s before they added 60 mill Isaak and 40 mill Gordon

People were turning their noses up when we were linked with Longstaff but he’s absolutely miles better than Davies and most of our other centre mids. Willock walks into our team. Lascelles (who doesn’t even play) and Schar are far better than Keane or Holgate.

They had a decent squad already that should never have been down were it was and then also added very good players.
