Newcastle Utd (and Viz)

Mate, this is what, the third/fourth time this season a takeover has rumoured to happen there, every previous time you’ve wet one over it when been told to mellow out and it’s proven to be a false dawn.

It doesn’t make a lick of sense that the outgoing owner is offering to loan money to a female led consortium to buy HIM out when the Saudi’s behind it can pay it like its chump change

This takeover has been put together over the last year - with the talks between them and Ashley's team taking much of it. Newspapers speculate and given Newcastle's perennial history of failed takeovers its no wonder stories and rumours abound.

The loan isn't for PCP at all but for Stavely's part of the deal, she facilitated and took out the loan to finance her own stake, she's a financier and will borrow money all the time.

Mike Ashley is a businessman and always a shrewd operator maybe he insisted the loan was taken out with him as part of the deal on a favourable rate (for him) - these deals are always complex and both parties have to get something out of it.

I've not lost all hope as given Newcastle's relatively recent history of failed takeovers you can never say it's certain at all. Hopefully Ashley changes his mind pulls out and everything falls flat, you never know but everything looks from the outside to be a goer (this time).

The loan is for £150m

It looked strong last time. They were meant to have Mbappe playing for them and be winning the league.

Let's wait and see. I suspect the Saudis will want to be background partners. Little evidence to suggest they want to come and blitz the league.

That's makes it far more of an earner for Mike Ashley, but Amanda Stavely Is used to these sorts of sums - she's a major deal maker and it really isn't that out of the ordinary. It'll be her companies who are getting the money and Ashley will be making a huge packet himself from interest on the loan.

Deals of this size no matter if the major partners don't take out any loans, are facilitated by financiers like Stavely and by their nature very complicated, while its far too much just for Stavely's stake Ashley has lowered his price to 300m from a reported 380m and you can guarantee he'll make an awful lot back from loaning her companies such an amount.

If the deal is lucrative enough for both the seller and buyer it's far more likely to go through.

This is Leeds, who if the season is voided will be bankrupt in the championship?

Like Man City with Thaksin before the Arabs rocked up - most clubs are sold when in precarious positions mate - Ashley is only likely selling because his companies at present are losing alot of money.

Heck even Kenwrong sold most of the club when it was evident the stadium plans were a no go and the fan pressure was cranked up.

Very few owners sell during the good times look at Arsenal, Utd and RS knocking back billion pound offers from Arab royals, Usmanov etc.

Only why does a Saudi consortium need to take on a £150m debt?

Makes no sense, neither does Staveley taking 10%, as they could have easily just paid her a fee separate to the purchase price.

It might genuine, but something about it just reeks to me, not least the time it’s taken them to conclude it, they’ve been on with this for nearly 2 years. Not generally how Saudis tend to operate, they’re not known for their procrastination when it comes to investments.

That's true. I've heard the same story over and again though. Newcastle were going to be City about 4 times now. So were Leeds (who look about to go bankrupt). Sunderland for a bit etc. Wolves, Sheffield United, Aston Villa etc. They cant all be City.

As has been said above, soon the league will be entirely owned by billionaires. Very very few will try to do what Chelsea and City did. Most wont even try to do what we have done. It's just part of a portfolio.

I am a natural cynic.

ahahahaha I remember this. It was great

Another club getting taken over is always good for us I think. The more teams that have the ability to compete at the top the better. When it was the old top 4 they effectively had a closed shop. As soon as City disrupted that apple cart we had a season of Leicester Arsenal and Spurs challenging for a title not that long after. If these teams are guaranteed CL football then we will never bridge the gap to them. At the moment they all know one bad season and they are 6th and looking at their best players going and manager being fired, in the past they started a season knowing the worst they could finish was 4th. If Newcastle add to the chaos at the top and disrupts Liverpool and United from getting comfortable in there then all power to them because it will probably open doors for us as well if these teams start finishing outside the top 4.
