News of Ex Players

So very sad to hear this, a true hero and warrior for this club, certainly for me anyway no bigger Evertonian has worn the shirt, thoughts with Big Mick and his family.
Really sad to hear about Mick one of my all time Everton favourites, what can you say about him? Strong, brave, loyal, great role model.
The last time he was pictured in this thread outside Goodison I commented he still looks fit enough to do us a turn.
If we had a Mick Lyons in the side now we wouldn't be in the mess we're in guaranteed.
I wish Mick and his family all the very best in dealing with this horrible condition. God bless him.

Repulsive little bigot.
On the other side of the argument… The lad will have had it drummed into him since birth that homosexuality is one of the most repugnant crimes going in the eyes of his religion.

He’s sticking to his morals that are based on his religious beliefs.

I find the whole ‘religion vs modern society’ pretty interesting personally.

People will always have different views on different things for a whole variety of reasons. Shame, buts that's the way it is, and probably always will be.

He's a rich man. He can afford to educate himself now. Hiding behind "religion" doesn't cut it. Zero tolerance for bigotry like this.

To be clear, he can believe what he wants. But what a reflection his "decision" not to play in these games is on his employer, Paris Saint-Germain. Moreover, what a reflection on football to allow these despots take over the game. It's no wonder the ignorance of Gueye is tolerated. His employers would probably jail the people the rainbow campaign is designed to support. I'm sure the internal PSG "HR" team has offered their player their complete "understanding".

Along with the World Cup in Qatar, this is just the latest example of the modern game being an absolute cesspit. Wouldn't it be great to live in a world where instead of a 17-year-old gay footballer from Blackpool being abused from the stands (a matter of time, sadly), the bigots like Gueye were the ones receiving the opprobrium of the crowd.

Just been on my local news.
Distin cycling from Sandbanks ( where he must live ? ) to St Tropez to raise money for Ukraine.
He is only 44 they said ? Looks well.

Having a particular set of religious beliefs doesn’t mean a lack of education. He will believe homosexuality to be a sin based on the teachings of his religion, as will many, many others of the same faith be they doctors, bankers, professors, farmers, shop workers etc.

The fact that so many in todays world still live their lives according to made-up stories written multiple millennia ago about a sky wizard is somewhat bizarre to me but there you go…

Why what's happened to Mick.?

Many studies show a correlation between education levels and religiosity - though others show the opposite. However, at best, religiosity among the educated often suggests a narrow mindedness and a lack of critical thinking skills.

Whatever the "reasons" or excuses for Gueye's "beliefs", it reflects very poorly on him. Of course, one must recognise and support his right to hold the beliefs he holds, however ignorant. But one does not have to condone his beliefs nor think well of him for holding them. Bottom line is he has fallen in my estimation of him. I'm sure that will bother him deeply.

Always think it rather ironic when reading something from the Godwhackers on an Everton FC site. That would be the Everton FC who were founded out of St Domingo's Methodist church, I guess?

On another note, Gana's views do not in anyway determine how he would deal with a homosexual on a personal basis. He is entitled to his opinions (no matter how abhorrent some might find them), so long as he doesn't act in any way which is unlawful. We have to be careful about the distinction. I think this is increasingly important in a world which is becoming ever more polarised by social media, for one thing.
