News of Ex Players

He played for Bournemouth? I only recall Portsmouth City and us? Or am I confusing him for someone else?
The story goes it was Distin who repeatedly questioned Martinez' not bothering with defensive practice in training instead choosing to try to focus on possession play. Eventually push came to shove and Mr Philosophy pushed Distin out of the door - so he signed for Bournemouth. We played that side away with Distin in the oppo eleven, and all of our players hugged him on 90 minutes. Senor Intensity-fantastic-moment had already began alienating the players and in turn the support. As stubborn and as stupid as Benitez. Both are stinking shambles of managers and neither are worthy of tying fat Sams gravy encrusted laces.
Some levels of disgrace we've allowed ourselves to be dragged down to.

I remember that issue with Martinez but I find it a bit weird they say Portsmouth and Bournemouth instead of City and Everton lol

Always think it rather ironic when reading something from the Godwhackers on an Everton FC site. That would be the Everton FC who were founded out of St Domingo's Methodist church, I guess?

On another note, Gana's views do not in anyway determine how he would deal with a homosexual on a personal basis. He is entitled to his opinions (no matter how abhorrent some might find them), so long as he doesn't act in any way which is unlawful. We have to be careful about the distinction. I think this is increasingly important in a world which is becoming ever more polarised by social media, for one thing.
Blimey, mate, that’s a stretch. I think you know full well that no football supporter in the land bases their support on the circumstances of the clubs creation, unless you’re suggesting that every Liverpool fan loves Everton??

Also, what’s the point of your second para? Nobody has argued that Gana is entitled to his beliefs. His beliefs are abhorrent and should be condemned, irrespective of whether or not he has ever physically acted upon them in any way.

I agree that his alleged beliefs are abhorrent but, according to the BBC, he has been asked to clarify why he was absent by the French Football Association and called upon to issue a public apology by the AFP news agency. The thought police are alive and well! Who was it who said 'whilst i vehemently disagree with what you say, i'll defend to my dying breath your right to say it' - or something like that?

Once more: not a single person has questioned his right to say it. Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of our society; freedom from consequences is not. If he suffers criticism for his beliefs it would be entirely justified.

Of course, if he chooses to refute the allegations of homophobia convincingly, and clarify the massive coincidence that has led to him missing this match for the last couple of years, he’ll have no issues.

Difficult one this but in our free society he can believe what he wants and really shouldn't have to apologise for his beliefs either. The problem comes if he actually makes a statement about those beliefs that then becomes a hate crime. So as abhorrent as his views are he has the right to have those beliefs as long as he doesn't step outside of the law of the country he's in. I'm just amazed given the way the press are over here that ex Everton player hasn't been added to his name rather than PSG.

Is my autocorrect doing mad things to my posts? To be clear:

I do not dispute he can believe what he wants. I do not feel he should apologise for his beliefs.

HOWEVER

If his beliefs are that homosexuality is in any way wrong (because of religion or whatever, it’s immaterial) then he is objectively wrong. There is no grey area or nuance surrounding the issue. With that being the case, he deserves any criticism he gets for holding those beliefs.

Of course, he may have a far less despicable explanation for missing these matches in which case the whole point is moot.

Would you be happy enough if a player refused to play and didn't aplogise if a shirt had an anti racism logo on it?

….it depends on whether the talent of an individual trumped the values and tradition of the club & its supporters.

In my opinion, the values of the club and its supporters is most important. Everton would not have worn T shirts defending Suarez.

Class.

Don't worry, Sky has just informed us that Gueye is an ex-Everton player.
