It may be that a 4 game audition has been extended for another 6 games.

The EL games are a bloody nuisance now but if he got 7 points from next 12 it would be fine. An away win would set him up very nicely indeed seeing as that seems to almost be a once yearly event now.

He can be interim manager for as short or long as they like without saying anything.

It’s not a good state of affairs though. Doesn’t sound like we have have done a global search for a manager.

This is basically what I get from it. They patently don't want to appoint Dyche for the medium term (probably the direction I'd go in) and back themselves to get a big appointment in the summer (a big risk).

It then comes down to Allardyce V Unsworth. I suspect re Allardyce neither party are willing to shift terms much presently. We are chancing it, that with a reasonably run of fixtures in the next 4, even if we only get 6 points, we could well be 5 or 6 points above the drop zone and relatively secure. If we pick up 3 points or less from the next 4 we will remain bang in trouble, will probably make the call to Allardyce, concede to most of his demands but safe in the knowledge the fans will be more open to the possibility.

At present, to give Unsworth a better chance, treating him as a manager not a "stand in" will help him. After 3 nightmare games to start he now has a chance.

He's made improvements but his niavety has also shone through. I would be pleased for the younger players but worried that Unsy couldn't organise us correctly. If anything I think he's slightly too attacking for the current mess and inbalanced squad.

For me it's so simple

Get some width and pace in midfield with Siggy behind DCL/Niasse and we will instantly improve.

Yes I agree, we haven't got a lot though have we? In fairness to Unsworth he tried that, it worked at Chelsea but we left ourselves too open at Leicester.

Though people hate the system, I think 4-3-3 is not a bad way to go. Getting Lookman into the team, along with 3 combative central midfielders may work.

I Would go 4/5/1 personally with two wingers , one of the middle three being Siggy behind forward and have two of Lennon/Vlasic/Lookman/Mirallas on the wings.

We need to totally drop the idea of Rooney/Siggy in same team.

Torn as well between recalling Dowell or not in January as his left foot would give us more balance.

I think niasse deserves a run up top and I think his work rate/endeavour will help massively.

My biggest gripe with Rhino was the starting line up on Sunday and the change at half time in Leicester.

God damn awful v Leicester, Lyon and very very lucky v Watford

What are some of you on ?

I think on the balance of play we deserved to beat Watford mate, and were a little unfortunate in Lyon (the scoreline flattered them).

It hasn't been much of an improvement, or a big improvement, but we had 3 tough away games and won against a decentish side.

I'd be made up if Rhino gets the job for the rest of the season.

Much more chance of winning the FA Cup with him at the helm.

yea, and it's not really fair to take that Norwich game into consideration but It's also not really fair to completely write him off after 4 games with that shambles of a team

Not writing him off as a possible good manager I am saying he has zero experience at this level and we are in trouble. Way too risky to appoint him.

Some perspective is needed I think. Leicester was by far and away the worst set up he has had, and probably the one he is most let down by. Chelsea we played well (albeit it was overhyped against a weakened Chelsea team) and Lyon I thought we did very well for 60 minutes and generally the criticism was probably overhyped. Yes we got out of jail a bit against Watford, he was lucky but you do make your own luck a bit in this game.

Whoever comes in will not have a magic wand. They will not have a centre forward and will have a badly ageing defence with no clear option at right back. Whoever you play there of the 3 can be open to criticism.

I don't think he's alienating anyone either. He isn't selecting players and there's certainly a good case to say he has been over reliant on players he knows. Hopefully this will change over the forthcoming game. What it doesn't hide though, is that we have an incredibly unbalanced squad, and to give everyone a game would either mean playing people out of position and/or rotating heavily every game. If players work hard in training everything has suggested players will be given a chance.

Whoever the new manager is, to be frank some big players are going to be left out. We've got a disjointed squad. Lets hope we can muddle through with some wins over the next few weeks. Lets put it this way, If the results don't take an upturn I still think Allardyce will be brought in, but we are delaying the decision to see is Watford can be a bit of a catalyst.

I need to qualify a myth: we didn't play well against Chelsea. We played their b-team, they blew us away in the first half, we didn't have a single shot in the same half, and then had a classic Everton valiant loser second half. Pathetic stuff, pathetic.

He clearly has alienated a lot of players, including our best player this season, Vlasic. Such a shame he never came through the Unsworth school of science, he would be lauded then alongside the Scouse Cafu, JohnJoe Kenny.

No, he won't have a magic wand, but he is a defender, why not make us hard to beat? Start at tehe back as Howard Kendall said, but what does he know, hewas only our most successful manager.
