The thing with unsworth that really bothers me is that his answer so far is playing more and more kids in the first 11. Dropping over 100 million pounds worth of talent and just promoting kids as they are the players he knows.

The thing is, a good manager takes the squad and makes something out of it. We aren't going to have instant results here so pick a team that works with the players we have and build something. I have to question how unsworth looks at the team and says klassen siggurdson sandro to name a few aren't good enough but this lad from the reserves is. Because it may be all well and good in isolation like Watford but especially when the gamea start coming quicker that will be suicidal to have essentially half the reserve team in a relegation battle.

Im torn on this one.

Unsworth has done amazing stuff with the U23's, especially when he's competing with the City's, Chelsea's etc. The way he has them working, the team spirit they show is fantastic, they all fight for each other and they actually play some really good stuff - its exactly what I want to see from the first team. However, its a totally different kettle of fish in the PL and if it doesnt work its complete disaster and could set the club back years.

He has been touted as a future Everton manager and if he is to step up into the role, he will need to start somewhere so why not now. I havent liked some of his decisions but he was never going to turn that embarrassment of a team around in under 2 weeks - nobody could. I would honestly rather let him carry on if we need to wait until the summer to get a quality manager, before giving it to Allerdyce the bung taking fraud who will have us hoofing it to nobody every game and wanting to spend £30mill on Andy Carroll in Jan, with a load of other crap signings that gives himself a huge £££

Agree up until you said "why not now?"

Because we are in a horrible relegation battle and he has no experience or pedigree.

The ideal scenario for me is we agree a deal with a big European manager for the summer, sign loads of amazing players at their behest in Jan, Unsworth gets to work with them for half a season, we win loads of games because they're amazing, finish fairly high and then the new manager cruises in and signs loads more amazing players in the summer.

It will be Unsworth until the end of the month then Coleman. His Contract is up after this next lot of games according to the BBC, and he's not signing a new one because wanting a proper job in the Premiership.

My concern is that Chris Coleman failed as a club manager, yes he took over the Wales team from Gary Speed that was promising (with Bale) and did really well, but club football is different.

They did not blow us away at all mate. If we're going to debate at least be rational.

On that basis we blew them away and more in the second half. Plus let's have it right, a lot of our team we're playing football for the first time in months.

Not a fan of DU being manager but be fair eh.

Great post.

I would love to know the combined value of Chelsea’s “weakened team” that night compared to the team we put out, which as you say was a hastily cobbled together outfit under the auspices of a man whom had been in charge 48 hours.

The way David Unsworth is being traduced on this thread is raising GOT iconoclasm to new levels of ridiculousness.

If we were 26 games in and hanging around the bottom 3 then i'd agree, but we have only played 11 games, 5 of those were Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Man U and Spurs so as bad as its been its not as bleak as people are making out.

Yes, by the likes of you. Take away Unsworth being a blue, what are his qualifications? Coming top in a league no-one targets? Without googling it, can you name the top 4 from that division last year?

You really are downplaying how bad we have been this season? i dare you to name a single performance that we played well in. Name one. Not one half, a complete perform, Koeman, and Post Koeman.

Yes, that would be acceptable.
