I really don't buy into the old 'David Simonsen' and the poor-overlooked-British managers rhetoric. A huge part of Simeone's success is not just his tactics but his personality, his coaching and the deft recruitment policy that he and his team at AM have in place.

If Burnley had the quality of players that Simeone has, no doubt they'd be better off. But I have no doubt that such a hypothetical Burnley squad would be better off still with Simeone in charge.
Maybe they would, who knows

If Everton can't attract Simeone and Dyche is of similar tactics, why not consider him. I reckon if Sean Dyche was foreign, more fans would probably want him as manager. It's not the poor-overlooked-British manager rhetoric as you say, it's just people seem to think foreign is better in certain situations for some reason.

Brilliant post. It's actually embarassing when you read that and then watch Walsh on the Everton Show.

Watched quite a bit of the Bundesliga the last few years and whenever clubs are at pre or mid season camps along with players and head coach interviews there's always one from the DoF/Sporting Director and always in the manner Monchi talks about above.

Quite simply we've given a scout a ridiculous title and it's a real shame cos it means we're at least a year behind putting a proper structure in place. Get rid of the old guard and embrace meritocracy not romanticism.
Also it shows that the DOF has had a role in choosing the Head Coach. So fare we've only heard who Moshiri or Kenwright want. Is Walsh even involved?

Latest in the German press today regards Tuchel and FC Bayern, is comments from Mats Hummels, who apparently has been asked by the bosses about coaches, which I suppose makes sense. Although I'm never that comfortable with the idea that players get so much power, they alredy got Ancelotti sacked!

But the stories in the press suggest that Hummels wasn't exactly complimentary, which isn't surprising. But hey, just a little update, cos players have so much power, and it may put TT down a little bit on their list at Bayern.

Agree mate, moshiri has the right ideas but in putting them into practise he's showing a woeful naivety about 'knowing football', question for me us I believe he has been taking advice from those longer in the game. Whose motives are dubious for the club at best.

A strong and competent top dof would not best serve the interests of kenwright and elstone and even a lot if the backroom and background staff at the club. Because frankly his first suggestion to moshiri would be a riot and branch cleaning out of the club.

Walsh was sold to him on the 'winning the league for Leicester' narrative, ignoring the fact they almost got relegated the year before with the self same walshes player choices , Newcastle similarly almost and ultimately went down because of his work as head of recruitment for allardyce there. And the man has bounced around numerous clubs with varying degrees of success and failure, and frankly got exceptionally lucky with signings at Leicester.

Didn't they actually want a different player for example than kante, and only got him when the first choice chose elsewhere, and interestingly the player subsequently was a flop, similarly mahrez wasn't the player he sent scouts to watch and it was only on the scouts watching the game he became a target for them, so not actually walshes fabled knowledge of stats and players...

One sticking poi t to any ambitious or proven manager in my eyes would be them having to be on the same page as someone who frankly is not deserving of the job, responsibility or profile.

Want a director of football then headhunt a good one, don't instead hire a good scout whose not up to the job and who hasn't a clue about how to do the role.

So still basically nothing then?

What sort of club hierarchy sacks its manager and then fails to install either a caretaker manager for the season or a new manager - but just fades away into the background for weeks on end with no contact with its supporters?

This lot are outdoing even themselves with this managerial no-show.

The words 'Lions led by Donkeys' seems appropriate on this day.
