Yes there's questions against his defensive work and his signings, but that is a trade off for his attacking football and he's made good signings before.

You've just described Martinez there to be honest

Yes Pellegrini has won Cups, but then again he did that with Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure in the last stages of his prime and one of the games best goalkeepers

If we got Pellegrini, I wouldn't be upset or anything, but he wouldn't be my first choice either

Plus, how much longer is he willing to go for? Does he have that hunger any more?

Koeman has more upside for me because he's younger and he's shown he can rebuild a club after lot's of people leave (Which we're going to need at this point)

I'm currently Koeman, Emery, Pellegrini, De Boer, Moyes

Everyone knows who I really want, but it seems like the club arn't interested in approaching him, so Koeman just edges it for me right now, although there isn't much seperating the top 3

De Boer has done well in Holland, but I'm not so sure I'm up for experimenting with someone so soon after our last big experiment with Martinez failed

And Moyes is just so thoroughly unexciting a choice that I have him last. Again, he'd probably do just fine if he came in, but it'd feel like a step back to me and I don't think he'd get us over the previous hump we had while he was manager, even with Moshiri's money to spend

There's slight questions about Pellegrini's defensive work, that is nowhere near the same as Martinez who just threw out a back 5 completely unprepared and didn't practise set pieces. They are chalk and cheese.

Proven in the premier league? Pellegrini has won the league, finished second and fourth in three seasons. Yes he's had a lot to spend but other managers have spent loads and not performed anywhere near that in the same time period.

Plays good football? From an attacking point of view Pellegrini's football is by far the best out of any of the candidates

Good ambassador for the club? Pellegrini undoubtedly is

Good in Europe and the domestic cups? Two league cups and sustained runs in the CL with Villareal City and Malaga shows that Pellegrini has all bases covered and could realistically end the trophy drought. Can you say the same about De Boer or Koeman?

Can build a team and handle big players: Pellegrini has proven he can do both at the different clubs he's been at. The other candidates not so much.

For me he's the stand out candidate. Consistency across the league, cups and Europe means that we could realistically expect a trophy if we gave him enough time coupled with strong league performance and turning up in Europe. Yes there's questions against his defensive work and his signings at City but that is a trade off for his attacking football and he's made good signings elsewhere.

There's massive risks around Koeman De Boer even Emery yet Pellegrini seems to be copping far more flak. I can't see why. On paper he's ahead of any other candidate in my view.

With the largest budget in the league, arguably the best striker and best squad, he only won the league once. His defence always looked shocking unless Kompany played, and in Europe he failed miserably. Even this season when they got the semi finals which was an achievement compared to previous years they went out with a whimper.

I just don't see how that shows he'd get a club on a smaller budget a trophy in the same competitions.

Koeman took over a Southampton side that many tipped to go down after it was ripped apart by the rs and Spurs. He's brought youngsters through and made shrewd signings to rebuild a side and have them as far up as I can ever remember a Southampton side being. He has experience in difference leagues and has shown that he can organise a side to be balanced. A superstar player as well only adds to his reputation for gaining instant respect. I don't think Koeman really carries any risks, which is why I think he's the favourite with the board.

Emery has won European trophies for a club that is nowhere the level of clubs they're up against. I'd rather take a chance on the unknown with him and the risks of him coming to a new league than opt for Pellegrini.

De Boer is a strange one. He's by far the biggest gamble of these four, but he has proven to be a winner as a player and as a manager. It is a different mindset when you win things, and again a superstar player can gain instant respect with the players on the training ground. He's very new in management terms but he has potential. I'd probably rather we took a gamble on De Boer than brought in Pellegrini even.

As long as it's not moyes though, that'd be the biggest backwards step we could take.

Can we stop with the Moyes talk? He ain't coming, confirmed by Esk. Move along....

I'm going to have to disagree with you mate

Joe Hart played a major role in keeping their games more respectable than perhaps they really were

They really only defended well when Kompany was in form

I'm not convinced that Pellegrini could be as succesful without a spine of a team as good as Hart, Kompany, Toure and Aguero

He may have defended well in previous jobs, but English Football is a different animal and you need to have a certain steel to you when it comes to defending

Koeman just shows that more to me

He also showed with the signing of Van Dijk that he can spot a player

He's also younger and with more to prove

He's ahead of Pellegrini for me

You make a good case but I will have to give the counter, which is fair given I am probably one of the more vocal ones being sceptical of him! I think my major issue with Pellegrini is that he is the wrong fit more than he is a bad manager.

1) I am worried about his age. 63 is old and he does look increasingly jaded in the job. I appreciate not every manager will stay here longer term but I think what we currently need is more of a longer term vision. Had he inherited the side Moyes left I think he would have been perfect for us as he could have tinkered with a disciplined side and given them the little bit they needed to win things. Alternatively hopefully after the next manager comes in say a Koeman, he would be ideal.
However I don't think with his age and the rebuild job we need his age makes him a natural fit. There is little doubt he can manage big ego's but at present that is the least of our worries. I see him as a tinkerer more than a rebuilder.

2) His big game record is very poor in England. Against United he has looked unconvincing. Likewise he has been played off the park and capitulated most games against Liverpool. I can't be doing with that anymore.

3) His style I don't really want to see at Everton nor do I think it will be successful in England. I think they remain quite soft defensively and prone to losing away games. Neither the defensive nor their away frailties have really been tackled by him.

4) Poor signings. Maybe it was above his head but I simply don't think his signings have worked out. The comment you make above that nobody has performed as well as him over the last 3 years. I don't think this is the case really. Nobody has spent as much money as him and 1 league in 3 years, alongside no FA Cup Wins and no trophies in Europe is worse than what his predecessor achieved (and was sacked for). When you spend the sort of money City do you would expect better.

5) Not shown he can bring young players on. There is a lot of criticism for his lack of opportunities for young players who won the FA Youth Cup. I think this should be central to any strategy going forward.

6) Still relies on predecessors key names. Despite spending huge sums of money City are still very dependant on Kompany, Toure, Aguero, Silva & to an extent Hart. He has spent lots of money and not rectified this.

My worry is he will be like Walter Smith was with us. Won a lot of trophies but used to being able to outspend his opponents. I don't get inspired listening to him. I'm not saying he's a bad manager but just not right for what we need currently. I do also think there has to be a bit of realism. Often the people slagging off De Boer for his record are rather uncritical of Pellegrini's. Relative to others in their league they have received similar backing. De Boer has always been in the top 2 and won the league 4 in 6. Pellegrini has won 1 in 3.

Unai Emery has given a brief response to rumours linking him with the Everton job and said: "I'm very good at Sevilla."

The three-time Europa League winning coach was asked about speculation regarding the vacant managerial position at Goodison during celebrations for his current club's European trophy.

Emery, whose team were in contention for two cups before losing to Barcelona in the final of Spain's Copa Del Rey on Sunday night, is believed to have been sounded out already by Blues officials.

But the man who foiled Liverpool in Basel last Wednesday gave no indication he is considering a move away from Spain, despite having only a year left on his contract.

Emery has been linked with Everton but says he's happy at Sevilla

The report, in Spanish paper Tu Periodico Deportivo, appears to suggest that the Basque is flattered by Everton's interest despite being happy in Andalusia.

But Sevilla's sporting director Monchi has insisted that Emery will remain at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, when asked about other stories suggesting he could be in line for the AC Milan job.

“He has renewed with Sevilla, even before the Europa League Final,” he told Calciomercato.com.

“What if Milan were to pay a release clause? He will not go to Milan. He will definitely stay at Sevilla.”

I'm looking forward to the announcement, to a large extent regardless of who it is now. I have been speculating in my mind for six months solid as I'm sure a lot of us have as to who could/would get the job. It's become tiring.

I'm relatively happy with a shortlist of Koeman, Pellegrini, Emery, and De Boer if that's what it is. I'll get behind whoever is appointed, 110%, and would call on all toffees to do likewise. Mourinho was never a reality. Simeone and Tuchel just complete non-starters. It's quite difficult in hindsight to propose alternatives to the names touted, there will be no risk-free, silver-bullet name pulled out of the hat to make us all happy.

Whilst being prone to impatience and frustration like many fans, I am now quite satisfied that the club, particularly when compared to Martinez' appointment, are making best efforts to bring the best available manager in. They will have information that we are not privileged to regarding the suitability/availability of the candidates. I trust Moshiri's oversight of this process. It seems that he has nothing other than our best interests in mind and the person soon to be given the honour and privilege of being named Everton Manager will reflect that, and will be aware of the responsibility on their shoulders.

The new manager will join us at a unique time in our history, new majority shareholder with real ambition and significant resources available to make the best of the transfer market, a new stadium being negotiated, shake-up at executive and board level. It's exciting and unprecedented in our recent history.

For the record, Emery is my choice, I'm not keen on De Boer, and relatively neutral between Koeman and Pellegrini.

It will be great to have a manager in place to start the task of reforming the squad, dealing with problems (Lukaku), and bringing players in worthy of the shirt. We go again in August. COYB.

I think we can rule this one out now!

Going to do a 3 hour exam now. I'd like to see a managerial appointment, or at the very least reams and reams of pages full of 'Moyes fume' interspersed with jarg statistics to read through by the time I get back.

Although he is pretty unique, SAF won 9 major trophies, including 5 PL titles all after his 63rd birthday. He had also had plans to retire years before he finally hung up his wristwatch.

Age is not a reason to discount MP, he could have another successful 10 years if he gets the right fit at a club.

My preference now is Emery, but I'd be more than happy with Pellegrini.
