To be fair, the media perception of Everton is exactly right.

People whine about us being talked down, but we've been also rans for ages, an irrelevance to most. We don't win anything and we don't have a huge fan base that will buy stuff because we're on it, nor a riling effect on other fans that will provoke a reaction. So why should the media care about us?

We need to show them that we won't sell players, that we will buy top players and managers, and compete for and win trophies. Chelsea and city didn't used to be lumped in with the big boys, but they are now. We need to start showing that we are serious before we can expect anyone else to take us seriously.
