Indeed

Some managers will give the kids a chance and some simply won't, unless the kid is so good they have no choice (Such as Moyes with Rooney)

A lot of kids aren't as good as that straight out the gate though. They need regular football and patience. Ferguson had that patience, a lot of other managers don't

You do seem to believe that just about every single young player should be given a go though.

Dowell looks brilliant. But he's 17 mate. 17. Let him play some actual football first.

Hmmm...

Poch didn't play many 17/18 year-olds like.

What he did was make the most of a young squad, and the talented players in it - Kane, Eriksen, Dier etc.

That's what we need.

We have those players in Barks, Stones, Del, Rom etc. - it's just getting the most out of them. To do that sometimes you need to bring in an experienced head (not saying 30s, but mid-20s proven quality) to compliment them.

And with that success comes more opportunities to introduce the academy players.

Simple.
Pochetino had some experienced players that Spurs paid big money for and he played youngsters with very little experience in the premiership. A lot of managers wouldn't have done that. I would like the new manager to buy a few quality players and use the likes of Davies, Dowell, Pennington, Kenny etc in the first team squad.

That restraint of trade type of thing wouldn't work in football IMO.

I imagine it would transgress a gazillion rules under Bosman and would violate the "human rights" of players under EU law.

The first player to test it in court would surely smash such a clause to smithereens.

In any business non-competes aren't binding unless you're at management level or above and even then they're difficult to enforce. They go in loads of employment contracts but they are utterly worthless. So a football player might be contractually obliged not to transfer to a certain club but the reality would be that that clause might as well not exist.

would happily apologise if i'm proven wrong mate, it'd mean everton were doing well!

my worry is that we are severely overpaying for a manager who has had two okay seasons.

And since he's been there he's had a net spend of minus £20m mate. In today's game what he's done there is very impressive.

Here he's gonna have big big money to spend, it's a whole different ball game so you can't really compare to what he's done at Southampton. And if we get Monchi then, well, even better ;)

Here's the thing with playing youth as well

There was no guarantee that the Class of 92 were going to make it

None at all

People say it will never happen again, and they're right

The reason it will never happen again is not because there isn't a group of youngsters at a Premier League Club good enough to do it, but ultimately because no manager will ever have the guts and bravery to do what Ferguson did

The view of Alan Hansen was the view of the majority back in 1995 when Ferguson gave those lads a chance

But he stuck by his guns and it paid off

This crop of young Everton players could easily be as good as that crop of players were, as can youngsters at Chelsea, City, United etc

Put someone will have to have the guts to give them that chance

Scholes, Giggs, Beckham, Butt and The Nevilles would never had made it if they hadn't been given the minutes they were given when they were given them. If they'd been stuck in the same cycle as a Conor McAlney, they wouldn't have risen above it either

I want a manager who will be prepared to take that chance, which is why I always wanted Jogi Loew as he took that chance with ther German national side and reaped the rewards

I think Koeman is a solid choice, but all the Southampton supporters mentioning his poor record with youth worries me. They see the young players at their club far more than we do, so there could be some young diamonds there who aren't getting a chance

Still, it'll be nothing new after years of Moyes I guess

But Mikey, that was 21 years ago and the time of being able to be 'patient' with a whole raft of youngsters all at once is long gone.

We have a few gems, and we look to have some really bright prospects coming through.

But for now the focus has to be to get us challenging again and then we can integrate the youth more into a winning side.

Dowell, Davies, Kenny etc. - they're all 17/18. What's the rush?

They all look good - but unless you're stand-out (Rooney, Barkley, Stones, Rashford, Rodwell [at the time]), the path is a bit more elongated.

I'd love to see him play some football

For Everton

In the Premier League

He has, he's played twice. He did well. I imagine he'll be in the first team for pre season and maybe in the squad at the start of the season given the Euros and Olympics.

I then imagine he'll be given a loan move to a championship club (already mentioned Rotherham as a seemingly perfect fit) to further his development.

17. He's not Rooney, who did it straight away - and nobody should expect that. I'm sure the club have set out a very clear path, one that the new DoF and manager will also buy into, for the young players.

Absolutely no rush at all.

Koeman flipped on the U21's at Southampton didn't he because they weren't producing anyone good enough....

Fact of the matter is that won't be the case here, so if he is going to play youngsters which it looked like he was complaining about, he has plenty to choose from.

If am honest, i would expect him to have one or two youth players in the squad.

Sounds eerily similar to moyes when he moved to united though.
