Southampton's Academy isn't what it used to be. Only reason it used to be good is because they couldn't afford players and had no choice but to blood their youngsters. Koeman played a young right back against us when we smashed the 3-0 can't remember his name but he was horrible, couldn't tackle or pass. No wonder 'he didn't play youth'.

Pochetino had some experienced players that Spurs paid big money for and he played youngsters with very little experience in the premiership. A lot of managers wouldn't have done that. I would like the new manager to buy a few quality players and use the likes of Davies, Dowell, Pennington, Kenny etc in the first team squad.

True mate, he did. But at the end the inexperience cost them the title...

He also had, as you rightly point out, quality players like Lloris, Vertonghen and Dembele.

Add to that Lamela, who he got going again, and the addition of Alderweireld and the experience of Walker.

These weren't babies, mate.

Kane has been superb, Alli too. Mason was 24 when Poch gave him his debut.

And since he's been there he's had a net spend of minus £20m mate. In today's game what he's done there is very impressive.

Here he's gonna have big big money to spend, it's a whole different ball game so you can't really compare to what he's done at Southampton. And if we get Monchi then, well, even better ;)

Correct. The bar has been risen. Mosh isn't paying £6m-7m in salary for us to finish outside the top 4 and not win trophy's. His expectations are massive and he'll have to delivery otherwise he'll be out

But Mikey, that was 21 years ago and the time of being able to be 'patient' with a whole raft of youngsters all at once is long gone.

We have a few gems, and we look to have some really bright prospects coming through.

But for now the focus has to be to get us challenging again and then we can integrate the youth more into a winning side.

Dowell, Davies, Kenny etc. - they're all 17/18. What's the rush?

They all look good - but unless you're stand-out (Rooney, Barkley, Stones, Rashford, Rodwell [at the time]), the path is a bit more elongated.

It really, really isn't mate

It's very possible, just everyone is so risk averse these days that no one has the confidence to try it

He never mate. That was their genuine replacement for Clyne - Cedric.

Sounds eerily similar to moyes when he moved to united though.

Nah they have completely different mentalities, hasn't he beaten every team in the league since he's been at Southampton? No taking knives to gunfights there. Plus, although there's pressure with this job, the expectations are obviously much much higher at Utd.

We all want the same thing here anyway. I just happen to believe he'll do very well here. I can see us getting CL within 3 years tops.

Was surprised to hear the lad from Southampton say that Koeman never really gave their young players a chance, from theoutside looking in it seems he has.

It's more than one of them saying it that worries me

But then again, they might have a different view on things

Certainly I'd be supportive of Koeman if he came here, but I would be keeping an eye on things (Like it even matters. I think the club will hardly care what my opinion on this matter is)

@The Esk just about to leave to go to a wedding but what % that this will happen?

Dowell is actually 18 guys, 19 in October but still extremely young and raw.

That doesn't mean our new manager needs to make a call on the likes of Dowell, Davies and co. Obviously they won't be starters but you don't want these guys to spend the next few years just playing with the U/21's either if they're not making the odd sub or early cup game appearances by the end of next season then the coaching staff need to look and sending them out on loan.
