Dowell is actually 18 guys, 19 in October but still extremely young and raw.

That doesn't mean our new manager needs to make a call on the likes of Dowell, Davies and co. Obviously they won't be starters but you don't want these guys to spend the next few years just playing with the U/21's either if they're not making the odd sub or early cup game appearances by the end of next season then the coaching staff need to look and sending them out on loan.

I thought he was 13?

It's more than one of them saying it that worries me

But then again, they might have a different view on things

Certainly I'd be supportive of Koeman if he came here, but I would be keeping an eye on things (Like it even matters. I think the club will hardly care what my opinion on this matter is)

I wonder is it like us saying that Moyes never gave youth a chance when he clearly did not to everyones liking though two names that jump out of my head is Targett and Ward Prowse.

Indeed

Some managers will give the kids a chance and some simply won't, unless the kid is so good they have no choice (Such as Moyes with Rooney)

A lot of kids aren't as good as that straight out the gate though. They need regular football and patience. Ferguson had that patience, a lot of other managers don't
Usually its dependent on the individual managers risk tolerance. This is influenced not only by the personalities involved but also the environment. So Roberto (Roberto Martinez) could afford to take some risks at the mid point of last season but as things went downhill for him he became more risk averse then in teh final game there was a low risk situation so whoever was managing could afford more risk.
If Koeman comes in he will be in a fairly risk tolerant honeymoon period for a month or so but then results will be needed if he wants to avoid the Mike Walker scenario so it may tighten up. Same applies to culling the squad.

It really, really isn't mate

It's very possible, just everyone is so risk averse these days that no one has the confidence to try it

Rashford would be nowhere near the United team. He was a winger in the academy that Van Gaal turned to in a time of injury. Now he's in the England squad. So I agree with this, you'll never know if kids are ready unless you give them a sustained opportunity not just 5 minute cameos or playing in a B team getting tonked in a cup. A manager has to be brave enough to give consistent starts and minutes in the premier league to young players. Nothing I hate more than seeing senior pros shifted out of position to cover injuries and doing a horrific job of it when you've got young players who train every day in that position sat on the bench.

Football has changed since the 90''s, in the modern game no matter how good a team of young players would be they would struggle in the fast paced, high pressing nature against full grown men.

Want proof? Watch Man city's youth team play Chelsea in the FA cup last season, some talented lads and for the first 45 minutes held there own, but come 60 minutes they were knackered and were then smashed by chelsea. It's okay having a few young lads if they are good enough but I would be gutted if we weren't bringing in players in their prime with the rumoured transfer kitty we have.

I can't wait for you to eat those words :)

He's gonna do a lot better here than people think, in my opinion. Maybe this coming season will just be a steady one but that's no problem, the year after that I expect us to be challenging for 4th.
Challenging for 4th? Ambitious.

Nah they have completely different mentalities, hasn't he beaten every team in the league since he's been at Southampton? No taking knives to gunfights there. Plus, although there's pressure with this job, the expectations are obviously much much higher at Utd.

We all want the same thing here anyway. I just happen to believe he'll do very well here. I can see us getting CL within 3 years tops.
I think you're giving him a lot more credit than he deserve as a manager, but i still think he is okay / solid.

But i guess time will tell!
