I'm still underwhelmed. Not really the wow factor I was hoping for. I'm also confused. If he was our number one target (not setting the bar very high imo), the one Moshiri really wanted, and Saints said we could talk to him at the end of last season, why bother interviewing other candidates? Was it to make it look like a fair and open competition. I've been to interviews like that- you turn up only to realise within minutes that the job already has somebody's name on it. I know sweet FA as far as insider info is concerned but it looks to me like the delay was entirely due to Ron being on his jollies.

He may turn out to be good, he may not. I'm vaguely uneasy about the initial knock back only for him to come back to us when the huge pay check was offered. I will back him and the team if/when he takes over, but I'm still not excited. Hope to be persuaded otherwise within the first month of the new season.

However bringing that red twunt with him should be non-negotiable. Completely.
He has done a better job at Southampton than Potchetino. When considering that and the fact he turned up and half of the Potchetino's previous starting xi had been sold is impressive but after overcoming that and bettering Potchetino he then lost Alderwierald and Clyne and one other? And still bettered his first season.

He is a fantastic candidate.

The telegraph reporting that Southampton are going to go for Emery

Fantastic might be overselling him a bit. I'm sure he will be fine but dull, I'm just not excited. If we were allegedly prepared to make somebody the 4th highest paid manager in the Premier League, I'm feeling we could have aimed higher.
