I think improvement for this coming season would be to stop losing games we were winning and start winning games we were drawing last season. That would see a obvious and immediate improvement in the points totai. The introduction of a bit more solidity and consistency would be a vast improvement and I think RM is probably the man to achieve this.

I don't think he is the right man to do that.

He isn't a proven winner as a manager so there can't be any demand to emulate his success thst he has not had as a manager

What he can do is form a cohesive squad that is solid and of a much better quality and sign the players who can install that belief in there. Jose could walk into Chelsea as European Cup holding manager, koeman walks in with 6th place lol

Koeman as a player won 4 La Liga's, 2 CL's, the Euros and more as well as tons of individual accolades.

Koeman as a manager has won 3 league titles and a few cups in his short career.

Think you're gonna have to define proven winner for me.

I take your main point but Koeman's managerial career is anything but short, starting in 2000.

He's no spring chicken, so you'd have to assume Moshiri's project convinced him that winning serious stuff was an expectation & that the funding would meet that goal.

Ah yeh read it as 2008 somehow haha ah well. My main point still stood though. Might not have won the CL like Mourinho did but his team was nowhere near their level. Definitely a winner.

(I know you never said he wasn't btw)

RM!? He's not coming back is he!?

A guadiola, Jose, ancelotti, Ferguson, van gaal, Capello to name a few.

Ones that don't walk in look to achieve success, ones that demand it. Pep walks into city saying I win the league, so you play and do this my way. Koeman doesn't have that about him. However in 3 to 4 years time he may get that here, if it works out.

I'm just saying, the reason why for example Moyes bombed at united was that he couldn't walk in with that respect, so therefore the players couldn't see past that. We aren't a united and things are different here but koeman needs to start by getting much better players in and starting from there, make himself a winner here first and foremost and the rest will fall into place

Sorry but how on earth do you know what Koeman is like? I for one as a player would respect the Hell out of him.

Guardiola, SAF, Mourinho, Ancelotti walk into the biggest teams in the world with bags of money and the highest expectations so I'm pretty sure they don't need to demand a league title. Koeman isn't going to walk into Southampton or Feyenoord with the same attitude.

You're just talking utter nonsense tbh.

Well respected and proven winner are two different things

Managers who are hired because they do actually win things can sometimes not be respected, see Mourinhio at Chelsea. And we'll respected might not bring success, like quite a few out there.

It's not about money, the money clubs hire them because of their demand for success, so of course they are hired off the back of it.
Koeman is highly thought of sure, hence why our board wanted him so badly. He hasn't won anything for a good while though has he? The club is going to back him to win something sure, and that respect will probably attract a player or two over his time here. But he can't walk in and say this is how you win things.

As a manager no, but he can give the players the belief based on his experiences as a player.

I mean who would you rather have giving you instructions, some kinda talented holding midfielder from league one who became a manager, or someone who has won it all as a player, played at the highest level with the best around.

I know if i was Barkley, Stones and others who i would listen too, and who would motivate me more.

What if he just puts all his medals down on the table that @Nymzee just mentioned and then says this is how you win things? While a highlights video of all of his goals is played in the background?

Koeman is a Superstar in football, there is no chance people start off treating him like Moyes got treated at United, no chance whatsoever. When he speaks people will listen. Sure over time it may sour but straight away he'll command instant respect because of his prior achievements.

And given what he has achieved in football, there is no way you can say he isn't a winner.

Indeed; he might not have won the CL as a manager but he's won it as a player under a manager so I'm pretty sure he'll have a good idea of what's required - at least on a mentality level - to win big things.
