Frank de Boer who has more votes on here than Koeman could end up at Southampton. After paying 11M + I hope we got the right guy!

It's not your money, mate.
We can waste as much as the man in charge likes.

Provided we are just waiting on "the announcement", what would be considered the optimum time to make it, to maximise media exposure?

We have had plenty of discussion on our media profile, this is a good news story (for us anyway) and it should be presented in the best possible light, and at the best time. If that's a factor in the timing, it's no bad thing.

I would think late afternoon, to capitalise on the onset of rush-hour traffic and coincide when people are leaving work/getting home from work. I would love to have the luxury of being at home, waiting on the yellow bar.

A guadiola, Jose, ancelotti, Ferguson, van gaal, Capello to name a few.

Ones that don't walk in look to achieve success, ones that demand it. Pep walks into city saying I win the league, so you play and do this my way. Koeman doesn't have that about him. However in 3 to 4 years time he may get that here, if it works out.

I'm just saying, the reason why for example Moyes bombed at united was that he couldn't walk in with that respect, so therefore the players couldn't see past that. We aren't a united and things are different here but koeman needs to start by getting much better players in and starting from there, make himself a winner here first and foremost and the rest will fall into place

The thing is though, it is not as black and white as you say, there is a scale isn't there? Guardiola is obviously top of the tree and managers such as Moyes/Martinez are nearer the other end. Koeman is somewhere in the middle.

He has won trophies in 3 different countries as a manager, leagues with two different clubs. In his time in football he has also won 2 European cups and over 20 trophies. I don't think many Everton players are going to look at him and not treat him with the respect he is due. At a push he has also just managed a team who has finished 5 places above them so frankly any player who is not willing to listen to him can be moved on for all I care.

This thread continues to give and give.

Just when you think its natural denouement is close at hand, some nebulous, yet irresistible, existential impulsion urges - nay, it compels - continued descent waaaaay deeper down the rabbit hole ...

...where we all emerge?

...who can say...?
No need to emerge, we've made our new home....
...may we languish....
...nay, be nurtured and nourished with it's life giving properties until the end of time or Moshiri's money runs out, whichever comes first.....

Ronald Koeman is being appointed I believe because of his attitude rather than his ability to coach.
There will be fitness coaches , defensive coaches, attacking coaches, coaches for anything you can name working with the players..... that is not what RK is paid 7m a year for.

He is being paid to decide overall formation , he tells the coaches what he wants and they carry out his instructions.
But, most of all his job is to change the mentality at the club, to convince everybody we are up there with City, Utd, Chelsea, Arseanal and Leicester?

That to me is his job description. To bring a mentality that every game can be won and have everybody really believing that.

He was also a boss togger player and he could teach a few of the young'n's.

Indeed.

All the potential incomings and indeed outgoings being banded about, the most important thing is for him to assess the playing staff (we have an exceptional, underachieving side), and sort out who is committed to buying into Moshiri and the new management teams long term plans.

IF we can keep the majority of the squad and get them fit and organised we may not need to add too many new faces. No matter what players and agents are spouting in the press (Lukaku), I would believe nothing until the pieces are in place.

A world class goalkeeper should be the priority as that has been a weakness for far too long.

I'm going to keep an open mind, I trust that Moshiri, a guy who has amassed a huge fortune through savvy dealings and repeatedly picking the "winning horse" has made a decision based on more than "Sky Sports reckon this guy is ok".

I can also see that Koeman has pluses and negatives but, so did Emery (away league form, not speaking english etc.) and even Jose could, by some be considered a busted flush, he fails at United he will managing Portugal at the next World Cup.

One thing that does make me chuckle is what do you think Barkley's reaction will be to the news he is bringing his fitness coach along with him?

He might tell Ross to throw the weights in the bin.

Agree with that post mate, but on the bolded bit, yeah we do kind of have that, but we have one which would be better described as some exceptional players but a side with massive holes and weknesses in it - which is what needs to be rectified, honestly don't think you can call ours an exceptional side for a few of the following reasons, we have a bottom half quality keeper, no top cover at fullback, not even the semblance of a left winger in the entire squad, no semi competent striker in the team besides Lukaku, and a VERY one dimensional centre midfield - no creativty, attacking instincts or goals from the lot of them really (Barkley excepted but he plays dropped off anyway), we also have no one close to what you could call a playmaker/tempo setter either

We keep what we have right now, shift the dead wood and yeah maybe spend the reported 100-150m then we may indeed have a truly exceptional side, but right now it is one that has way too many flaws to be considered one that could and should contest the top 4 or better

Need a top class goalie - 'like' Hart
Need a playmaker - 'like' Mata
Need a left winger - 'like' Ziyech
Need another good level striker like Janssen, Giroud, Bony, Benteke etc
Need a genuine qulaity centre mid who can control a game - 'like' no idea but they are out their - say Scheniderlein for example
Likely need anothe versatile defender like a Blind type who can cover 2-3 positions

There is a big reason that the new owenr is going to pump a fair bit of dosh into the squad this summer, because it needs it - otherwise it becomes a team that can lok great one game and terrible the next - because it has huge holes and lacks depth at some crucial areas

If he's a Pro, then he'll see it as a positive. Interesting watching the recent vid of Deulofeu in the OS - saying the club had given him a fitness plan for the summer. It's clear that they are aware of the fitness issue under Martinez - I've never seen such poor fitness in a Prem team. Knackered after 60 minutes - shocking!
