Well respected and proven winner are two different things

Managers who are hired because they do actually win things can sometimes not be respected, see Mourinhio at Chelsea. And we'll respected might not bring success, like quite a few out there.

It's not about money, the money clubs hire them because of their demand for success, so of course they are hired off the back of it.
Koeman is highly thought of sure, hence why our board wanted him so badly. He hasn't won anything for a good while though has he? The club is going to back him to win something sure, and that respect will probably attract a player or two over his time here. But he can't walk in and say this is how you win things.

The club is offering him the chance to win something. Taht is something Southampton could never do.
