I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Mark Hughes would be an excellent choice as our next manager for three reasons.
1. He's played for us and knows Everton which I think is really important.
2. He has a wonderful passion for the game without being a raving lunatic type.
3. He's British and I know this is a very personal reason but I'm sick and tired of seeing second rate foreign managers (Martinez?) doing an average job in the Premier League.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHA

I would be happy with any of Ronald De Boer Ronald Koeman or Jose Mourinho. So long as it's not Rafael Benitez or the second coming of David Moyes then everything is alright.

Lol Lol and more Lol

At least you tried

Hi all, first post after an obviously disappointing day. Just my two pence worth, while there is nothing wrong with aiming for the sky I think we need to be a touch more realistic.

Jose is considered by most, as well as himself to be an elite manager who has only ever managed top tier clubs. He is eyeing the United job and if he doesn't end up there, I can guarentee you it will only be with a team already in the Champions League.

As for Pellegrini, he's a terrific manager but there have been strong rumours about him packing in at the end of the season for a while now.

Unai Emery would be a great shout if we could get him, as would Favre who I agree has done well at Borussia Monchengladbach. Equally if we are seeking a manager with European Pedigree I think we would be foolish not to consider Quique Sanchez Flores who I think has done excellently at Watford, although they have tailed off recently. I think Eddie Howe would be an interesting choice too.

Either way I'm resigned to us losing a few key players because of all this, Rom being the most obvious. No doubt RM is running on borrowed time...

touch more realistic

I can see your reasoning but there's a couple of things you need to factor in. Firstly you need to look at wages.

Under Moyes's tenure. He was the third highest paid manager in World football, yes World Football. Martinez is 12th I think. Wages for all of us are a major draw. Top wages widen your hiring prospects considerably.

Secondly, I think under Bill Kenwright, the points you make are fair enough. The Board has lacked ambition for a generation. However, since Moshiri took over there's a very good chance the landscape has changed. In that, what may have been "unrealistic" targets before, I think there is a very good chance that some of the names mentioned in the poll are far more realistic now.

He really wasn't.

Can you find a source for Moyes being 3rd? I know he was high on the list, but I'm almost certain he wasn't THAT high

EDIT - he was 16th

Hi Keiran...tell us about yourself here. https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/forums/new-signings.42/

The PoP question is the most important one of course.

I honestly think one of the best things Moshiri and Kenwright could do would be to sit down with Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku and some of the other players and ask for their input. Not to pick the manager outright, of course, but show them the short list and ask them genuinely how they'd feel about playing for the guys on the list. Whether or not our bright young stars agitate for a transfer this summer will have a lot to do with who's running the team next season, and if it comes down to two or three guys who could do about as well as each other, I want the one that Romelu Lukaku wants to work with.

I want Blakey
latest

I like the cut of your jib young man

Having said that, the reason why Moyes' wage seems high was because we paid him a disproportionally high wage compared to our overall wage bill.

QPR had a wage bill of 58 million and paid Hughes 3 million so 5.17%.
Everton had a wage bill of 63 million and paid Moyes 3 million so 4.76%.
Sunderland had a wage bill of 64 million and paid O'Neill 3 million so 4.68%
Tottenham had a wage bill of 90 million and paid Redknapp 3.9 million so 4.3%.
Chelsea had a wage bill of 173 million and paid AVB 6.5 million so 3.75%.
Real Madrid had a wage bill of 234 million and paid Mourinho 8.4 million so 3.5%.
Liverpool had a wage bill of 119 million and paid Dalglish 4 million so 3.36%.
Aston Villa had a wage bill of 70 million and paid McLiesh 2 million so 2.85%
Arsenal had a wage bill of 143 million and paid Wenger 3.9 million so 2.7%.
Bayern Munich had a wage bill of 160 million and paid Heynckes 4.2 million so 2.6%.
Man Utd had a wage bill of 162 million and paid Ferguson 4 million so 2.5%
Man City had a wage bill of 202 million and paid Mancini 5 million so 2.4%
Barcelona had a wage bill of 268 million and paid Guardiola 6.3 million so 2.35%.
Borussia Dortmund had wage bill of 80 million and paid Klopp 1.8 million so 2.25%

That was from his second to last year here. While Moyes was on much less than the likes of Fegruson, Wenger, Guardiola, Heynckes, Mancini and Mourinho our wage bill was far smaller in general.

He was the only manager at a major club to earn more than any of his players.

Wages will be defo be a selling point that we can offer.

Thanks for the corrections. I think you'd have to agree, my point that he was paid very well remains. Especially when you look at his competitors. If you're looking to hire the best as you can see from Allezfan's post, it helps if you're competitive, which to be fair we have been.
