First off before anything else there is his ostrich rant. Enough said on that point.

Secondly, Ranieri has taken his squad and mounted a title challenge. Yes you could say credit Pearson for putting it together, but then there's also the question of how did he almost get a title winning squad relegated?

For me Ranieri is the genius and is getting very good, but not world class players, playing in a way that brings results. Pearson is an average manager who took a whole season to get very good players producing results.

Not for me. No one else in the league has touched him either.

Thanks for your reasoned reply, mate. To be fair, I don't think anyone would have said last season's squad was a potential title-winning one, but so it has proven. Without taking anything away from Ranieri, Pearson must be given some credit for putting it together. Leicester's amazing run started at the end of last season, and one could argue that it was down to hard work and belief that Pearson instilled in the players.

Of course, 'the ostrich rant' will long stay in the mind, but by Christ, he was pushed mercilessly by the media and ultimately he was able to stick a big two-fingered salute in their direction. I like the way he galvanised the team and never stopped believing that they had the quality to stay up.

When managers of the calibre of Koeman, Howe, AVB, Hughes, Cocu are being discussed, I see no reason for Pearson not to be included in the debate.

The Sampaoli shout is an interesting one because he fits the profile of Bielsa quite closely and is out of work. It wouldn't surprise me if they had the same agent/contact point. Mazzari seems to be getting linked with a few jobs including Liverpool so wouldn't read too much into that.

Nice to see De Boer on the list now. I think Cocu would be higher than what he's being shown on the list though and surprised Alan Stubbs isn't more prominent.

Actually think I'd be surprised if Alan Stubbs was prominent, and not very happy either!

The example you give though are of Betfair which is slightly different to a regular bookie, as it simplifies the bet and makes it more like an exchange.

Bookies operate in two ways. 1) They have stats guys who assess the probability of something happening. 2) They then fluctuate their odds to cover themselves. As long as they cover their losses with bets on the other side they are happy. Their profit margin lies in the differences of the pay out.

They would probably only look to suspend the market if they felt information was available that in instance 1 they were overlooked by. A managers race is different to a match, because people can have insider knowledge that isn't about stats and probability. That's more the cause of a suspension in this instance. Stop the market, assess whether the deal had been done, and only open if they know it is still an on race.

The collapsing odds on a manager will mean that members of the public are betting on them. When you see that you do have to ask why? It may be because there is something in it, or alternatively it may be a bit of a dead end rumour.

The current odds give us some idea, but only some idea. 2 months ago it looked completely unrealistic. There is some thought into this but you will only start to see a serious market if Martinez is confirmed to be moving.

Absolutely - see my post on the previous page. Two completely different types of market.

I was tipping Mazzari a few months back. I like him. Was put in a bad position by inter and never won over the fans but was excellent at Napoli. Not a dream appointment but light years ahead of what we have now.

Pellegrini would be a mistake. He's underachieved at Citeh. Can't sort a defence out. Plays Yaya as a DM. Buys Sterling. Plays Navas. Silva has gone backwards under him. I'm not seeing any positives there at all.
