Except that our league placing increase if we add quality hence increasing income to pay better quality players. Thats gradual improvement and happening at every club in the world. The only way it could go tits up is having a manager who is not good enough and can't manage a club full of talent. Remember Martinez?

It's time to move away from kenwright era my friend.

I see.

So, Jose's never bought a dud. Jose's never spent huge sums on players who never even played for his first teams, but sat on their arses raking in the spondulicks? Jose never had his side turn sour on him?

Our own players never gave less than 100% for martinez?

There are no guarantees whoever we get in. Irresponsible spending by demolishing the wage structure certainly won't bring sustainable success.

I said in another thread that I won't be kidded by new manager syndrome. I most certainly won't by any manager bringing in £100m worth of players and finishing top 6 in their first season...With or without a pot.

As many have said. Until its clear Jose is going to Man Utd, I'll have that hope. Realistically though, it looks like De Boer so far, of those who are available. If he goes to Spain (Valencia?) there's not much left that's available. Then we're into the realms of approaching clubs to see if they'll release their manager. And that is always tricky.

That will become a lot clearer on Sunday evening. If Utd don't get 4th spot then I think LVG will be sacked after the cup final. However if they do get 4th the Jose to us is on.

For me it simple

Release hibbert, osman, gibson, pienaar and howard going anway. Rhis frees up 200k a week in wages plus bobbies wages so 250k

250k a week would cover Mourinho wages at 12mil a year with no affect on current wage bill.

We promote a few youths and give the 100mil to mourinho to spend on 3 to 4 top players. Wages covered by new tv deal.

With mourinho and half a dozen top players the board then go and secure some proper sposorship deals to increase the turn over further.
After first year i would expect to be in europa league and would aim.to win it as a route to champions league aswell as push for it through league position.

There is no doubt we can afford him. That isn't a deciding factor.

He will not go to PSG - They have Blanc and I don't see a change there. Valencia have no wonga so he won't go there either. So where does that leave him?

A return to Real Madrid? - Nope they seem happy with Zidane

A return to Inter Milan? - Possibly - but I can't see him ousting Mancini a second time

AC Milan? - I thought about this as a possibility but given his connections with Inter and his friendship with Inters owner - I would say no

That now leaves Man Utd and little old Everton....

Looks like LVG will hang on in there for another year and there is strong opposition to him from powerful figures inside Old Trafford. They would like to see Giggs take over from LVG.

So if you take Mourinho at his word that he will return to management this summer then where else is left for him to go but to us!

Forza Jose!
I hope you are right, I have my reservations though. Would be fantastic to get Mourinho and give us genuine hope of a pot. Just not getting my hopes up.

The £12 million for mourinho shouldn't come into question. He will get more out of a squad for less money, if that makes sense. He could spend £10-15 million less than other managers, per season, and finish higher.

Hi mate.

Well being named with the esk and bizarro - don't know if I love you or hate you!:)

Season ticket sales - to be honest, season tickets are sold at a discount, so there is an argument to limit the numbers sold which I believe is the case at Analfield. Next season my season ticket has cost me £550 which means that after VAT my contribution to turnover is £458.33p or 24.12p per game. Better off selling to occasional supporters if the demand is there.

Jose/Everton merchandise - must admit I don't often buy any, but for starters would this not be part of the Kitbag deal (I honestly don't know) and I am pretty certain that it would be derided and called "cultist behaviour" by the hard-core fans. There may be a market but not sure how large.

Media coverage - may well help to make a decision for any potential advertisers/sponsors/partners, but not sure it would be the defining factor as in " Mourinho's turned up at EFC, they will get more coverage, so lets change our advertising strategy". Corporates are in a bind as generally speaking they do well and are fully taken up (a poster on here reckoned that the only one not sold out was either Leicester or Stoke up to the end of Jan this season from memory).

Can't argue that given the new deal every league place makes a marked difference in the prize money. The cups in themselves aren't awash with prize money, and again the tickets tend to be discounted, the real value in winning the cups is the European football and perceived added value by incumbent and potential sponsors/advertisers/sponsors, bearing in mind that it tends to be us Brits who sniff at the Europa League.

If Roberto was on 4mil a year and Mourinho wanted 16 mil, could the 12mil gap be financed by the Mourinho effect? Probably the bulk could be made up by league places to be fair.

However, Mourinho is probably a non-starter, and it should also be borne in mind that his backroom staff will conceivably cost more than Dennis Lawrence!!!!:)

I await being ripped to shreds by @The Esk

If I come across a bit crotchety I have the perfect defence as I am only on third coffee and second cigarette of the day.
