I see.

So, Jose's never bought a dud. Jose's never spent huge sums on players who never even played for his first teams, but sat on their arses raking in the spondulicks? Jose never had his side turn sour on him?

Our own players never gave less than 100% for martinez?

Of cos he did, but you're moving away from the point here.
What I'm saying is, if you are worth billions, surely spending 15m on the best manager in the league is not going to bankrupt you or the club at any point.
As for incoming players demanding, it's very far fetch for them to compare wages with the manager.
Mourinho is paid tens of million at most club he manage with success. I've never read any report of him buying TOP players demanding for wages that is on par with him. Costa? Fabregas? Hazard? Are they on 15m a year?

Hi mate.

Well being named with the esk and bizarro - don't know if I love you or hate you!:)

Season ticket sales - to be honest, season tickets are sold at a discount, so there is an argument to limit the numbers sold which I believe is the case at Analfield. Next season my season ticket has cost me £550 which means that after VAT my contribution to turnover is £458.33p or 24.12p per game. Better off selling to occasional supporters if the demand is there.

Jose/Everton merchandise - must admit I don't often buy any, but for starters would this not be part of the Kitbag deal (I honestly don't know) and I am pretty certain that it would be derided and called "cultist behaviour" by the hard-core fans. There may be a market but not sure how large.

Media coverage - may well help to make a decision for any potential advertisers/sponsors/partners, but not sure it would be the defining factor as in " Mourinho's turned up at EFC, they will get more coverage, so lets change our advertising strategy". Corporates are in a bind as generally speaking they do well and are fully taken up (a poster on here reckoned that the only one not sold out was either Leicester or Stoke up to the end of Jan this season from memory).

Can't argue that given the new deal every league place makes a marked difference in the prize money. The cups in themselves aren't awash with prize money, and again the tickets tend to be discounted, the real value in winning the cups is the European football and perceived added value by incumbent and potential sponsors/advertisers/sponsors, bearing in mind that it tends to be us Brits who sniff at the Europa League.

If Roberto was on 4mil a year and Mourinho wanted 16 mil, could the 12mil gap be financed by the Mourinho effect? Probably the bulk could be made up by league places to be fair.

However, Mourinho is probably a non-starter, and it should also be borne in mind that his backroom staff will conceivably cost more than Dennis Lawrence!!!!:)

I await being ripped to shreds by @The Esk

If I come across a bit crotchety I have the perfect defence as I am only on third coffee and second cigarette of the day.

You caffeine-induced, nicotine-guzzling crotchety owld git you ;););)

No problem mate, always good to get a reasoned response and Intake on board your thoughts.

I do think however that Jose would bring in a fair amount in new/increased revenue to offset his undoubtedly high asking price.

A merch deal could surely be done aside from Kitbag as a wholly in-house operation?

At my age, I'd hope to be considered 'a hard core' fan but that wouldn't stop me from buying some form of Jose related merch... if he came and helped us recover the glory days and helped set us on the road to world domination that would be mighty fine by me and you could happily label me and thousands of other as cultists :D

Not a surprise really, he was mates with Martinez while he was at the club and RM gave him the job. Now he's been sacked and he wanted to make it clear there were no hard feelings between them.

No problem in that anyway, Martinez was a nice person. Not like Unsy was saying he played great football or was an amazing manager. In fact he sort of hinted that he didn't like Martinez's style when he said something along the lines of "the type of football we will try to play should give the crowd something to shout about".

Unsie's latest chat is a bit more like, talking of what is required of a new manager. Notice Unsie refers to wealth of talent we have in the U21s just ready for stepping up. A fact ignored repeatedly by RM who kept on selecting a has been or two.

Hmmm - have we met? That description is spot on. ;)

Think (but not sure) that Kitbag covers all merchandise and may well have an exclusivity clause, but may be wrong. Could be a moot point if it were possible to break the contract, pay the penalties, and bring it back in house. Unfortunately, I don't know how long it would take to do this, and if we currently have the expertise to set up the supply and logistics side bearing in mind that it is a worldwide operation, and in order to get the brand out there, deals with retail outlets may well be required.

It's probably because I am an old git that I wouldn't be seen dead in a Mourinho T-shirt or whatever. I didn't wear a Harry Catterick one. :)
