This is increasingly my view on Mourinho.

It'd be like that mad idea of launching a spaceship using a nuclear bomb.

There'd be a colossal explosion, with a load of fallout, but we wouldn't care because we'd be in orbit.
You would not use a bomb per se as bits and pieces of you (and your fellow astronauts) would be blown into orbit. However, controlled nuclear fusion propulsion has been proposed as fuel source for inter-planetary travel
It's been suggested that nuclear fusion could occur by compressing a specially developed type of plasma to high pressure with a magnetic field. A sand-grain-sized bit of this material would have the same amount of energy as current rocket fuel.
For Evertonians taking off for an interplanetary excursion, I'd recommend they employ the latter described fuel source.
For Kopites taking off, I'd recommend they use the bomb.

I remember before we appointed Moyes a non Evertonian mate asking me who I wanted as manager, "Fergie" I told him "as he's the best around", I knew it couldn't and wouldn't happen but that was the dream scenario.
I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that out of the realistic options 3 seasons ago I thought Martinez to be an ok shout, certainly compared to the other candidates.
Now dream scenario to me is Jose and holy macaroni there's a chance...this is a truly exciting time to be a blue once more.
Come on Moshi lad, make it happen!

To me it all points to Koeman

Superb transfer record
Plays youngsters
Installs discipline fitness and work rate
Big name with a pull for players
Progressive manager
I read an article ages ago about Southampton's set up and I don't think he has much say in signings(it was a while ago so not sure if it's changed) and although he's my second choice after Jose, that could be a worry

Not many players have got game time from their academy, regardless of who is in charge, they all just get loaned out for experience, maybe that's all down to their club policy or something
True Chelsea have never had much of a reputation for developing youth, but when Mourinho was rehired there the last time apparently Abromovic was very keen on him bringing through some of their kids as he has spent a lot of money on it and it now is very successful at junior level.

Instead Mourinho banned the academy players from sharing recovery sessions in the club pool with the senior player meaning they had to go to a local public baths and stopped their coaches from wearing initials on their kits - hardly the actions of someone interested in integrating the academy into the senior team.

I understand why a lot of people want Mourinho but he's not for me we've got the best group of youngsters that we've had for decades. We need someone who can blend them in with some top quality signings, Emery, Favre, De Boer, Koeman in that order for me. I think after today's results the chances of Mourinho going to United have increased.

I agree with this 100%. The same order, and as much as I want Mourinho the first two are in the same category- just very underrated. De Boer still unproven outside of the Dutch league, but well worth the risk. Koeman the safe option here, but a very good one nonetheless.

If we get Mourinho, I'll convince myself none of that is an issue.

If we don't get Mourinho, I'll convince myself all that was a dealbreaker and we're better off without him.

You see I need to take you up on this.

What have those three proven to you to be ahead of Koeman?
Emery's name is only mentioned cause of their Europa League triumphs, he's distinctly average in the League apart from their decent home record.

Favre took a relegation threatened Munchengladbach to the Champions League.

De Boer well we all know about him.

Neither of them should be ahead of Koeman.
How you can say Emery's general league record is average is puzzling. Perhaps you should look at what Koeman has done at other clubs, his record is patchy to say the least. If you want a direct comparison then there's one from Valencia, Koeman had an 18% win record there and would have relegated them if he hadn't been sacked. Emery took over from Koeman and with the same players took them to sixth, and he had to also deal with the small matter of the club going into financial meltdown and the players not being paid for 2 months.
Emery's first two teams he managed both promoted, both to highest league position they've had, negative net spend at Valencia of -£63 million, finished 6,3,3,3. Sevilla negative net spend -£83 million, finished 5,5&7. If you still think Koeman's better that's upto you, I think you're completely wrong.

In general Emery, Favre and De Boer have consistently performed above expectations at their clubs, and they've all got a record of bringing through and developing young players. I don't think Koeman has done this consistently and for me their's a risk with him that he wouldn't perform when he's at a bigger club and with more pressure which is why I placed him behind Emery, Favre and De Boer.

Fair points, but he has been managing in jobs that demand constant and usually immediate results and success LL, not helped by the fact he actually likes operating with a relatively small core of players and when your dealing with massive bloated squads like chelsea and madrid have then yeah the younger players do suffer, thing is though - for example madrid, they just dont tend to produce for the past 15 years since raul etc many academy players good enough to break into the team - and they buy back the ones who do develop later in their 20s to be deemed good enough

Hell Barca deemed riquelme and madrid deemed eto'o not good enough for them intially and serially farmed them out on loan before selling them

IF we are seriously looking to build a team that can constantly challenge for the league etc, then honestly we won't be promoting players up from the academy at 17/18/19 anymore anyway (not that we have really ever done that though), we will start to use longer term loans to develop players unless we really strike it golden with players coming through who are just too good not to break through - ala rooney etc, thats just how modern footy is at the top nowadays - teams buy in the already developed youngsters and loan out their own to get them developed
I agree there is a balance to be struck between giving youngsters gametime and room to make mistakes with keeping up the overall quality of the squad.

Just feel that Jose has shown so little interest in some very good young players in recent times ( eg De Bruyne) that the balance would result in almost none of our promising crop getting a look in. Like you, I want to see Kenny be Coleman's backup next season and think there would be no chance if Jose was our manager.

Have a similar reservation about Pellegrini and youth players tbh and Koeman's record hasn't been great either despite S'ton having a good academy.

Yeah he just has a veto on player signings.

When you look at the calibre of managers we are linked with this time around compared with last time it's like night and day. Would have been happy with pelligrini, and koeman would be a very good appointment in my opinion. However I think all Everton fans would need pinching themselves should we land mourinho. It would exactly be the statement of intent that @The Esk has alluded to about the plans moshiri has for this club.
