I have been dead set against Arteta but coming round to the idea in some ways.

I would rather somebody with a clean slate than 20+ years in management but nothing much to show for it.

But it would be an undoubted gamble, and on balance not one that we have the luxury of taking. He may be more likely to end up at Arsenal.

Agree with those saying there won't be a candidate that pleases everybody and ticks all boxes, there simply won't.

I imagine Brands looking at the list of possibles isn't going to be very encouraged either, particularly in mid-season when availability is limited, and that is another factor that weighs in Silva's favour.

But it's his job to go out and make the best appointment possible when it comes to it.

If you are approached by Everton and decide it's interesting and you then take a long, hard look at the club, I'm afraid a lot of people are going to look at us and say "No, thanks" regardless of the financial package on offer.

The axe will fall on Silva, and we'll get a manager commensurate with our current and long-time standing in the game, when the blue-tinted glasses come off. That's doesn't have to mean it's automatically more of the same, but it does mean the margin for error is practically non-existent if we opt for potential over experience.

Please name one who we could get.

It's not my job, I don't have the ability to hold talks with managers nor am i able to offer financial numeration. Given these facts, I cannot name one. Marcel Brands and all his contacts and Moshiri and his willingness to spend may know better than us on a message board.

Is that sensible enough for you.

In many ways this would be the perfect time for us to get Arteta in, nothing to lose this season (we won’t go down) gets him settled for next year. I’m firmly in the Arteta camp

Imagine Moisty being a choice for manager,a fella who in 11 years won ziltch, didnt win at Anfield,Old Trafford,Stamford bridge and jibbed the club off making sure there was no compo, comes back trying to unsettle players, relegates Sunderland, sacked by West Ham and he has cheer leaders on here

How? The lowest we finished under him was 8th in 2010. We finished 6th in his last year and 7th the 2 seasons prior.

Again, for me it's about an identity. The club doesn't have one right now and hasn't had one since Martinez.

We had an identity under Moyes and I think we could replicate that again. I suppose you're right in one respect, I'm suggesting Moyes because I don't think the club have the ambition or balls to appoint a 'proven winner'.

Moyes is a good solution. A cheap solution and one that I think could still lead to happier times. Ideally, we'd go out there and give Mourinho what he wants or tempt Van Gaal or Wenger to come in but we all know that it isn't going to happen.

The guy had eleven years with us and won the square root of feck all....yes he steadied the ship when he first came, but failed to break through the glass ceiling of actually WINNING some sort of trophy....a cup at the very least. Identity? We have been "plucky old Everton ", "knife to a gunfight" for ages. As for Martinez, don't even go there....promised much but failed abysmally to deliver in the end, and all we ended up with was "phenomenal" every week, and bottom half of the table. But you are satisfied with "identity" so that's ok then. I am not Silva 's greatest advocate by any means but quite frankly, I'd rather keep him on rather than employ David Moyes.

Am genuinely amazed that people think arteta is the answer. A bloke with zero managerial experience. The basis for this opinion is that he spent some time with pep putting out cones and looking bored on the city bench.

last thing we need is a complete gamble like that based purely on sentimentality.

Not disagreeing with you. But our last assistant manager are doing a great job in Portugal.

So I can form an opinion could you elaborate what specific qualities does he bring.
What formation does he prefer?
Is he high press or low block or another?
Does he use man marking or zonal or maybe a blend of the two?
Does he concentrate on a strong defence to build on or a fluid attack or another method?
What is his in-game management like is it aggressive and pro active or more considered and reactive?
How does he perform under pressure after a run of defeats and /or injuries ? Is he composed or is he liable to crumble?
What is his man management like? Arm around the shoulder or blowtorch?
Just a few questions about his attributes to be better able to ascertain his suitability to manage my club. If you could find the time to answer them and ,where possible, give examples and evidence (videos etc if available) which I can consult myself to be better able to form an opinion on his potential application.
Cheers

He’s on 40m a year? That 800k a week ... more than Ronaldos wage when at Real Madrid .
Lol wtf ... according to that Henry is on more than pep? In his first managerial appointment he is getting paid more than the best manager on the planet who manages the richest team on earth.

I also noticed @MarcelsGoat putting this list up the other day.

Those figures include all payments, meaning Henrys figure includes his total payoff by Monaco + wages earned and any bonueses.

For Simeone the media say he earned a bit more than Griezmann (before he left) to make him the highest earner at the club so that seems about right. However as his deal elapses in 2022 then it seems more realistic to be 1/3 of that amount?

Who really knows...

As for Silva i thought he was on £3mil a season and Koeman was on £6mil...

I see what you are proving here, although I am at this moment not a fan of bringing Arteta in ,could you ever answer all those questions of a new manager ? It so much depends on who he has to pick from and their mentalities
