NFL 2022 Season

He doesn't play defence, he's the quarterback who threw 3 touchdowns in that game.
Oh so he didn't do anything to Mahomes then?

Just really wish the NFL people could remember that the QBs actually don't play each other. It's wild to me how baseball woke up one day and figured out that assigning pitchers wins was dumb and meaningless and at about the same time football was like "why don't we track QBs by whose team wins and ignore everything else?"

Alright I'm done.

Aye, you could have switched Brady out for Josh Johnson his whole career and he would have won 7 superbowls instead. What could have been

No, but you also can't tell me with a straight face that Brady could have just won 7 SBs anywhere. It's a team sport and not respecting that is really dumb but somehow widely accepted.

Nobody said it wasn't a team sport. But Tom has a claim, with a substantial amount of evidence to back it up, that he is the best teammate in NFL history. And he has done it from probably the most singularly crucial position in the whole sport. I know you're the reigning king of pedantry since Tubey left, but I have no idea what's needling you here

Nobody's debating whether Brady will go down as a great NFL QB. He is. He's also a great clutch performer.

But the NFL is such a team sport, there are a million factors that contributed to his winning 7 super bowls. For starters, there is a legitimate claim that his first one was won at best under shady circumstances, and at worst illegally. This wasn't Tom's fault. But the Rams win wasn't a Tom Brady masterclass - the defense won that one, perhaps b/c they knew what plays were coming. The Falcons win was due to a choke job of epic proportions by the other team. Manning had terrible defenses for much of his career with Indy. Etc, etc.

And I'm not a Brady hater. These are just arguments that help balance the narrative he's far and away the best QB of all time. He's up there, sure. But it's not beyond debate

Yeah the conditions were right. But Tom made sure of that by making sure the teams he was with had sufficient salary space to assemble a good roster. He was notoriously a stickler for watching tape of other teams and being almost psychopathic in his preparation. He maintained a spartan fitness regimen for his entire career that meant he ended up playing at a high level for an unprecedented length of time and having pretty much 3 separate hall of fame careers.

When you ally all of this with the fact that he didn't even have particularly outstanding weapons for a lot of his SB wins, his amazing ability to rally from huge deficits, his ability in clutch situations, his individual SB appearance and win tallies that will almost certainly never be matched. All round it paints the picture of a singularly outstanding competitor and winner who will probably be without peer in our lifetime. He has more Superbowls than any franchise ffs

If people want to argue about who has the best arm or completion percentage ot whatever, that's fine. But Brady is the GOAT and the only people who will argue it are stats dweebs who don't understand any of the intangible qualities that underly high level sporting success, or salty fans of all the teams he has laid waste to over the course of 2 decades

It's not even a stats thing for me. I watch a lot of football and Manning in the 2000s was better, Rodgers in the 2010s was better and Mahomes is better than anyone I've ever seen aside from possibly Rodgers at his absolute peak. Do the stats back that up? I'm pretty sure they do yes. But it's really just a test of who scared me the most to play. Brady was never #1. Maybe that's just because the Ravens usually competed with him or beat him I don't know.

And don't forget that for most of his time in New England, the rest of the AFC East was absolute dogturd. That was a guaranteed six wins almost every season; one hell of a head start toward making the playoffs.

And yet Brady has won almost double the amount of Superbowls than all 3 of those combined. As a competitor and teammate, he blows all of them out of the water, and no amount of passing yards or tight spirals are going to change that in any retrospective. In all future list of best ever NFL players, Tom Brady will be #1.
