Go risky, it doesn't work and you lose the regular season game, fine.I know its worked for Campbell all season, but his obsession with going for it on 4th down had killed the lions tonight
Or just don’t run it and blow a timeout. They basically had the worst of all worlds with how they handled that drive. They also took way too long getting the first score (which every coach screws up to be fair). Needed to take the field goal at 1:37 after Laporta went out of bounds at the 15. Would have left plenty of time to get the ball back.
Think I might give this Super Bowl a miss. We all know how this one ends.
By that point they were down to like 1:00 and would have had to try an onside kick anyway. Take the field goal at 1:37 and you’re down 7, but you can kick off deep if you want to.Or just don’t run it and blow a timeout. They basically had the worst of all worlds with how they handled that drive.
He’s going to (wrongly) get a lot of heat for the 4th downs but that last drive was the most glaring error.

the run play was stupid on 3rd down, taking the TO was more stupid. They also took way too long getting the first score (which every coach screws up to be fair). Needed to take the field goal at 1:37 after Laporta went out of bounds at the 15. Would have left plenty of time to get the ball back.

But by the time you get the ball back you have what, 40 seconds left and you have to go 60 yards with no timeouts just to get into field goal range. Realistically you do have to get the onside kick. And the odds on that are incredibly low so better to preserve resources (clock and timeouts) and give yourself an option to kick deep.If you have all 3 timeouts you don’t have to get the onside kick
You have a better chance getting the FG in limited time than a TD. To me the crucial error is losing the timeout. You shouldn’t preemptively kick a FG in the redzone when you’re going to need to get all the way down there again. But by the time you get the ball back you have what, 40 seconds left and you have to go 60 yards with no timeouts just to get into field goal range. That’s why I would think, get the field goal as soon as possible. Kick deep, get the stop, hopefully you can get a return on a punt that you would never get after an onside kick, and you still have over a minute to get a touchdown from decent range.
Your wonderlic 13 qb and offensive co ordinator threw it away let’s get it right.Sucks. Mahomes was good and then we got to terms with it. Shutting them out for a half and losing just hurts. Right there and we tossed it away. The Flowers fumble is probably not going to be properly recognized for how much of a disaster it was. Just one of the worst possible decisions you can make.
Reminds me of 2006 when we held Manning to all FGs and lost it.
All year they’ve not lost when they took care of the call and they didn’t take care of the ball. Down to down they can beat anyone but this is the NFL and those types of games will kill you.
