NHL

Ironically and probably stupidly, the man on the right being punched in that YouTube frame is the same person who gave out that awful punishment and started this whole mess.

Some goons are goonier than others...I remember seeing the McSorley incident on replay that got him banned for a year and he just ended up retiring. Ugliness is going to rear it's head on occasion, we all know it. It's remarkably managed, considering the unspoken freedom awarded.

Some funny stuff there. You watch enough hockey and you probably know all these, but it's good to see it laid out. The footage of Charra was particularly impressive, the guy is 6' 9" w/out skates.

The funny thing is it's basically just raw street code for a sport...you know it came straight off the ponds. Anyone that's being real with themselves and/or played any sport is going to get it, you'd hope.

But what do we know, eh...

We were missing Seguin for most of the season and Bishop for all of it and then covid wrecking the schedule didn't help, but it never seemed like it was going to be. On to next year.
If you can find a way to get Radulov and Bishop off the books and replace them with younger contributors that would really help. Simply running it back with the same group was never going to work.

Oettinger has looked good for a kid, so that’s promising. Seguin’s contract kills. Dobby might get moved in the expansion (maybe Pavelski too) but we’re still cap strapped and Heiskanen is due a deal. I don’t know how Klingberg can stay but if we can keep him that seems good.

Like, yes there is hitting in hockey and yes there are fights, but there’s a kind of honor to it and everyone more or less knows where the line is. Tom Wilson crosses it constantly and doesn’t care. He’s been suspended five times for bad hits in his career and it should have been six.
Three handbags and they'd only been playing for a few seconds. lol

It would be nice to see the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, start winning stanley cups again. Both teams are the most successful in the league, but the Leafs haven't won the big prize since 1967, and the habs last won it in 1993. Is there a particular reason for both teams struggles? Poor recruitment and administration etc, or is all the best players from Canada going to the teams over the border?

expansion plays a role and surely also pressure from fans but I suspect there are other factors as well. These two may have been the most resistant to changes in the league but that’s just a guess.

Tampa’s title defense has really gone sideways with injuries and poor form. I really do not want the Lightning to go out in the first round to this stupid Panthers team that is only good once every 5 years. They are the Watford of the NHL, right down to throwing plastic animals around.

At one point, Canadian teams were at a serious disadvantage due to the USD/CAD exchange rate. I believe that was in the 90s.
I’m not so sure about the Habs, but have lots of family and friends in the Toronto area. They blame bad management/ownership for the team’s struggles. No matter what, good or bad, the Leafs will sell out every ticket every season.
It is telling that some of the other Canadian teams have come far closer to winning the Cup than the Leafs or Habs.
