I think the debuts thing is a harsh criteria to use. Only Gordon has been given a debut in the 12 months since Silva left, so it's hardly like a load of players were banging down the door making themselves impossible to ignore. Dowell and Gibson were ignored by managers both before and after Silva, and no PL club wanted to buy Dowell when he was available for a pittance. The logical thing to believe is that they weren't good enough to be picked. Unfortunately many people choose to believe the illogical thing, that they were good enough and were just ignored for some reason.
Well my point was a simple one in response to a post about Silva playing young teams , i believe that Carlo has done more in that respect. I don’t look back on Silva’s time as someone who particularly promoted youngsters , if you are making an argument to the contrary then we will just have to disagree.

I'm not making an argument to the contrary? The post you were replying to appeared to contain a fact. I haven't checked it, but it appeared to be saying that Silva picked the youngest team in the league while he was here. You said you recalled it differently, but if it's a fact it's a fact surely? Your recollection would have nothing to do with it. I was just taking it at face value really, and saying I don't really see any reason to criticise him for not picking Lewis Gibson, who can barely get a game for Reading 12 months later.

Anyway, this is the Nkounkou thread so let's get back to saying that he is definitely the best left back in world football and will definitely win the ballon d'or one day and it's totally unfathomable that we haven't picked him in the last couple of games even though we've defended well and won them.

I’m surprised myself by hiss omission, I hope we find A place on the bench for him in the coming weeks and he gets some game time. Godfrey has done a good job playing left back against good opposition so the manager has called it right on these occasions and who are we to argue.

I was really excited about him when I saw him in the cup.

Really don't know what's going on behind closed doors, but it's not looking good. Season is only going to get more competitive

You can't knock Godfrey for how well he's done at lb, or Carlo for getting us there (eventually!), but I'm still not having it that Nkounkou shouldn't have started at lb/lwb, when Digne first got crocked!

I hope he finds his way with us, and if there is a problem that him n Carlo sort it out, as I really think there's a player there.
