Actually, I simply thought we couldn't afford him.

To add to this, I put this later in the thread.

This thread is a bit embarrassing... religious slurs, talking about two people who don't even post here, most people writing off a player they haven't even seen play... bad times.

At the time of the quote above, the rags were saying £8m. And it was the summer!

Egg on faces for some!! Ha ha

Its a bit early to call to be honest, he looks to have added a different dimension to us and looks like a very good signing, but we were crying out for a striker so it hasnt been hard to impact as we were making chances with no one to stick them away. In terms of history strikers we sign always seem to start well and then tail on, whether thats our system, fatiuqe, the burden in expectation in isolation, other teams knowledge of their game, predictablity or fatiuqe its hard to know - perhaps a combination of all. Long may his form continue, he has answered all questions asked of him up to now, but for me the acid test will be next season and if he can continue this momentum - he is also playing in the summer at the Euros and will be expected to play a hell of a lot of games for us next year. Like i say i think we need another option upfront to take some of the burden and responsability.

That said it takes me a while to warm to players who come from rangers. Hes done well.

but.........but........ but.....i really..........

See my last post above. I've actually always rated Jelavic, stood out like a sore thumb in Scotland (as anyone with quality would do) but when reports of £8m-£10 were thrown about you knew it was a pile of crap, and it was only when we sold Bily and Rangers went into meltdown that this transfer became an actual possibility.

I hope you are enjoying Jelavic.

How has he been?

Not very quick or strong but he's a quality finisher who's great at holding it up and bringing others into play with some neat touches.*

Had mixed feelings when we sign him but I think that fitness permitting he'll get about 20 next season. He's absolutely boss.

*Obviously you know all that but yenowarramean. How I see it.

He's a class act, haven't managed to catch any live games since he went south but not surprised to learn he's impressing. He's a proper footballer who will get you goals.

I have a feeling he's going to regret coming here surrounded by a team and boss who cant find the nerve to convert golden opportunities into reality.

If he continues on this trajectory I see him upping sticks and leaving for Spurs in a year or two....I think you know dont you mate that he's a mercenary when push comes to shove?

Aren't they all, mate? Jelavic was pretty open with the Rangers support, he said he wanted to play well for Rangers and progress to the EPL and he went with our best wishes. I'm still a bit sore that little [Poor language removed] Whyte only managed to flog him for £5m or so! What a bargain you lads got. He'll go for £10m +.
