The BBC have now also got in the act..

BBC said:
Everton have opened talks with Rangers in a bid to sign Nikica Jelavic before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

West Ham had a £7m offer for the 26-year-old Croatian international striker rejected - now Everton boss David Moyes has made his move.

Rangers are understood to want £8m for Jelavic, who missed Saturday's 4-0 win against Hibernian because of illness

Everton have a limited transfer budget but sold Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to Spartak Moscow for £5m.

However, the Toffees are unlikely to meet Rangers' full asking price for Jelavic.

Talks are ongoing in an attempt to agree a deal, with Everton hoping Rangers may drop the price to what the Goodison Park club will regard as a more realistic valuation.

dont listen to a word andy rangers is saying , this clown nickas goal scoring record before he went to scotland was 74 goals in 10 years look it up , hes a lazy boy and most his goals are from the pen spot , hes proved he cant score in top leagues and im being honest hes not worth the 4 mil rangers pain for him ......pray u dont get him mcfadden is better and thats the truth.

Oh bhoy, say it ain't so.

You know guys, if we had the money and bid for messi, I'm sure the'd be some guy come on and say its a waste of money buying him as he won't fit into our style of football. I've never seen Jelavic so really can't make a judgement. If you'd said Boyd or Naismith, I'd say never. So on this occasion, I'm trusting Moyes on his judgement.

rangers were trying to get 10 mil for him , they even came out and said utd were looking at him , which was found out to be lies just to try and bump him up .....big k jones from stoke is a far better player than this dud , 74 goals in 10 years tells the story and as a celtic fan ive watched him play ...he cant play as a lone striker which everton like to play , hes a turkey and moyes must be off his rocker if he wants him even if it was for free unless ur expecting a lot of pens all season.

I personally think Messi would struggle to adapt to Jagielkas thru balls.

Rangers fan here.

Rumours are that Whyte and Kenwright are meeting to discuss terms of the deal and I believe if Everton are concrete in their interest then they will sign him. Our financial situation has been well documented and we appear to need the Jelavic money for operating costs.

I had a little laugh at the guy who said he's worth £3m tops, you obviously don't understand what you're watching when you take in a game of football. Jelavic is a very good footballer, he's technical and at his best with his back to goal. Even though he's big he's better with the ball to his feet and he needs a partner to feed off his flicks. He's a good finisher and often scores spectacular goals.

So what its only the SPL? Aye, we know. Jelavic is a Croatian international and definitely has the ability to make the step up to the SPL.

well said.

What's worse, spending 35mil on a dud when you have 50mil in your back pocket, or spending your last 4mil on one?

Its worse to spend 35mil when you have 50mil on shoite because there is a broader spectrum available to you.

With our finances there's always going to be an element of risk in the signings we make, especially forwards which cost extortionate amounts.
