Just one clarifying point: Brands. Either Brands likes him or not. That seems to be the remit of a DoF; to not make wholesale changes to the squad due to the whims of a manager who can be changed at a moment's notice.
I agree to a point. And it may well be that Brands has the final say on players. But I'll think you'll find that he and Silva work together on bringing players in. Brands won't bring anybody in (to the first team squad) without agreeing it with Silva first, and Brands will run the rule over any requests from Silva.

If Silva suggests to Brands that he wants to take another look at Vlasic in the summer, I can't see any practical reason why Brands would be against it. Unless you consider Vlasic tipping Liverpool as one of the favourites for the Champions league as being a practical reason.:)

No, I agree completely. But if Silva says "I don't want him anywhere near here", and Brands doesn't think getting rid of a Croatian international for no reason is a good idea, I think Brands has the long term plan to say "nope"

...Silva worked with Lookman and refused to sell him or send him on loan. Silva worked with Vlasic and then sent him on loan. That might say a lot.
Lookman went on loan already and had a good spell. He also plays a position that needs four players available and Niksi plays a position that will probably be occupied by Gylfi every game. It made sense to send Vlasic out because he wouldn’t have gotten any time.

Sorry. I was looking at that from the other angle.

No I agree with that. Suppose it depends on what somebody is prepared to pay for him. But worse case scenario is that we send him out on loan again but at a higher standard.

..fair point, i’m just pointing out that Silva never sent Lookman on loan. After having plenty of no10s, there now isn’t lots of cover for Sigurdsson. Silva worked with the players pre-season, I think it might be telling that he let Vlasic leave.

I think the "issue" (if you can call it that) is that Vlasic wanted regular game time and wanted Silva to guarantee that. He couldn't, obviously, and here we are. But Sigurdsson is going to hit 30 this year(?) and we need someone to be able to play in case anything goes awry.

I get what Vlasic wants but it's a tricky situation.

...who knows? I just think if Silva wanted Vlasic to stay, he would’ve kept him. If he’d have kept him it would’ve been to use him. I like Vlasic, but I don’t think Silva was convinced. It’s just a view and I might be wrong.

Realistically him and Lookman could fetch us £35-40 million.

I would sell both and reinvest in a quality player for the starting 11.

If Silva iced him from training as reported, it could really mean anything. The stories that came out indicated that Silva took exception to the loan request. I’m really curious as to what happened and if there is any bad blood.

I dont disagree, but thats utterly mental.

Which ever way its painted, neither player is a starter for us. Ergo, neither would be missed. Their potential may or may not deliver, who knows?

So £35-40m for essentially 2 spare soft top cars you might use a few days in the summer.
