Hahaha.

You could at least put a word in for us Nordies with your hotel prices ffs. It’s only fair.

lol Ive a couple ofspare room in mine mate, your welcome to, but we’l be rocking it out in Div 2 next year, for your next big trip after Garth. lol

In all seriousness I reckon what will topple the North wont be religion, but young people getting fed up of voting with no outcome i.e. collapsed assembly, actually think it’s edging closer, the youth won’t stand for it eventually, history is littered with examples.

Our only real hope is the youngsters! You're right, they won't stand for the same old crap. It does take generational change and us 'tainted by the Troubles' oldies need to die out before we see genuine change in the attitudes. (Not immediately, like) Watching the NI news is like watching the same programme for twenty years. There's going to be some bad times, but it will all work out.

I wouldn’t cross the road to see Garth!

Agree re younger voters but also factor in the new Irish population. They have largely settled in Catholic communities in the North and likely would vote with their neighbours as they build roots. Add in guaranteed re-entry into the EU and all the rights that entails and I’m confident that grouping votes to unify.

I can't read through this so sorry if I am repeating the same gag but it's as true now as it was when the thread started but: That would be an ecumenical matter?!

Never really had to venture far from home for the cheap fill up but if stuck Silverstream in Monaghan was the go to.

Maybe we shouldnt be hasty over this border thing….
To be honest, I think we're yonks away from a border poll. If it happens too soon, it could put everything back decades. A few more years of this tory govt could speed things but if people are expecting things to change soon, I fear they will disappointed. I'm 60 next year and I honestly don't think I'll live to see a United Ireland. My kids will though.

Disagree with this. There will never be a point where Unionist political leaders will have prepared their constituents for inevitable constitutional change. Anyone who espouses Irish unification will be the enemy at the gates and all labelled IRA despite a bullet not being fired in 25 years.

London and Big house Unionism has lectured Catholic/Nationalist Ireland on democracy since Partition and now we demand they do the same.

Religion by birth stats of children aged 8 to 17 tells you a majority of Catholics over 50% comfortably by 2031. Add in my earlier post re New Irish and re-entry into the EU which is huge.

SF will be in power North and South by worst 2025.

The zeitgeist is there for it now. Brexit has reminded us how our future lies within.

I take everything you say but what I meant was, winning a border poll is far from certain. If they go too early and lose that by even a single vote, they will (as they do with Scotland) brush it off and say they can't have another for the foreseeable future.

The endgame is clear to a blind man but I honestly reckon everyone needs to buckle up for a long, hard ride (oo-er, missus). Not sure that middle ground is ready to jump one way or the other at the minute. Hope I'm wrong but I think there's a hard road ahead as the death throes of the dinosaurs cause as much damage as they can.

GFA has the 7 years between polls but I accept your point totally. We won’t need a second vote, it will be stage managed to make it as easy as possible.

In terms of potential backlash to a border poll and successful outcome, that’s overstated. Loyalists were recruited, managed and directed by London and that just won’t be the case during the disengagement process. The EU/USA/London will pour money in to support the separation and ‘malcontents’ will be bought off with a community job.
