Not A Transfer Rumour..... Wayne Rooney

Well, definitely not a transfer rumour now. Signed the four year deal. Also will become a club ambassador for them when he finishes playing. No chance of any ties to Everton in the future.

ManU would have crumbled down without this deal. Roo and his agent hold all the cards in negotiations, they were in the position to do so.

This might backfire too. Not sure if Moist can handle this situation knowing these two arent actually closest "friends"
Wonder what RVP, Januzaj are thinking. They will be popping into Moyes' office very soon and saying they want to leave

Interested to see that Freddie Shepherd's a co-owner of Stretford's current agency.

It was Newcastle, Shepherd being chairman, that made the phantom bid that drew Utd out to make theirs at that particular time, just before the window close....when Everton needed the money....to meet the bank demands..

Kenwright's acknowledged best friend in football.

And the fee wasn't market value, not to the club at least.

Bills 'best friend in football' at that time was David Dein..and he still is a close friend of Bills. Stretfords agency (Pro Active??) at the time of the Rooney transfer had an office INSIDE St James Park, and Shepherds son was on the board. Alan Stubbs was also 'closely connected' with Stretford . It is true that the Newcastle bid was a 'stalking horse' to get ManU to bid...ManU wanted Rooney, obviously, but did not want to place the first bid. Stretford 'arranged' the Newcastle 'phoney bid'. Everton always expected a bid from United, and United always intended to bid, the surprise was that it wasn't the first bid.

Murky business football, and I suppose unless you are on the inside it is difficult to fathom why you would leave your boyhood club to play for a rival. The whole deal was dodgy and depressing back in 04. I had hoped that perhaps the pull of a chance of winning something at his boyhood club would be enough of a pull to see him return, although the circus that follow him around would not be welcome at such a close knit squad.

This new obscene deal will hopefully be the end of any lingering thoughts that this lad will ever pull on the Everton shirt again. I certainly don't want him coming here to retire.

OK Steve

Will take on board your assertion that Dein's Bill's best friend, and Shepherd was just "one of his best friends". So Bill's still a close mate of Shepherd, who's a close mate of Stretford, and Bill allowed any number of Proactive shareholders inside Everton, including the club secretary Dunford.

Glad to see you've cleared up any concerns about Everton's involvement in inviting/encouraging/arranging the bids being made, at that time, when the club was badly skint.
