Not A Transfer Rumour..... Wayne Rooney

I don't like to hear about Wayne Rooney being unhappy and not enjoying his career. Wounds have healed from what happened nearly ten years ago and I actually like watching him play and on his day is the most exciting player to watch over the last 12 years. When he looks happy and he's enjoying his football that's what it's all about, I hope he leaves United and plies his trade somewhere he is respected and is happy. Can see him going to Chelsea and adding massive strength to their already strong team, as much as Chelsea are a bad supported club by idiots, I wouldn't mind seeing him play there in a very strong team. If he goes, you are looking at a Chelsea dream team.

If he goes anywhere else in England he would be a fool - he will be on less money and will have less chance to win things at everywhere apart from Chelsea, and I cant see Mourinho buying him because its abundantly clear that they dont need him and wont be playing a system that suits him. The idea that he would come back is nice, but I cant see it happening.

Abroad is his only option, probably Real where he would be a much better fit than Suarez.

It was a standard 4-4-2 back in the day, for example let's look at the England 1990 team.

We had Beardsley and Linekar up front, Waddle and Barnes on the wing with Platt and Gazza in central mid. By your reckoning we had four centre forwards.

From Ireland so I wouldn't have followed that England team, only recollection of Gascoigne, as I'm 20, is of his time with Rangers where I'm pretty sure he played ahead of midfield and scored regularly. I'd class that as a forward

Mourinho has already strongly hinted he'd be very interested

I've never in my life seen him play as a forward or indeed referred to as a forward until this thread today

Chelsea team:

Defensive midfielder - Mikel

Centre midfielder - Lampard

Attacking midfielder - Mata

Centre Forward - Torres

Would you say there was no difference between the roles Torres and Matter play?

I wouldn't class Torres as a centre forward but a striker and YES there is a difference between CF and striker. Shall I break it down?!

Jesus, so you would have been about 6 years old then when he was at rangers.

When I was 6 I believed in the tooth fairy and Father Christmas, and that Gazza was a centre midfielder. Platt scored a lot more goals, he was a centre midfielder as well. Back in Gazza's day, they played with 2 forwards and he was not one of them.

Rooney and his advisor from the earliest time took a mercenary view of his career. He left Everton just about as soon as he could when in fact his career would probably have benefitted from a year or two more at Everton.
As a consequence I don't believe that he has ever truly fulfilled the potential he displayed as a youngster.
The fact that Utd are prepared to sell him as he reaches the age where he should be at his peak and for a figure reportedly as low as 25 is hard to credit.

Of course we also saw a couple of years ago where Rooney held Utd over a barrel and extracted an obscene amount of money from them. None of these things are likely to encourage loyalty in a profession where loyalty is scarce anyway.

Ironically,if Rooney now declared his intention to run down his contract and return in time to his first club/his first love it would really set the cat amongst the Utd pigeons.

It's all that green veg and pints of the black stuff we have over here and start on from a young age mate, makes us use more of our grey matter.
If it's annoying you that much about CF's and CM's etc ill drop it lad

Drop it if you want, just know that you were wrong. He was a midfielder throughout his entire career.
As you were.

On the rooney situation, he's got to be going to chelsea hasn't he?

Please do...

I'd say Torres was a 'striker' at Liverpool in the sense that he played on the shoulder of the last man at all times whereas at Chelsea he's more of a centre forward because he occasionally drops deeper to link up with their other attacking players as well as hold the ball up and run the channels.

Either way Gascoigne was a midfielder.

RVP scored less goals last season than Rooney did in the season before RVP signed. They're both class, and I don't think it is a given that RVP is the better player.

It certainly isn't.

Wayne is s much better footballer than RVP......he may not be the finisher RVP is, but as a football player he leaves him standing, IMO.

I hope he leaves Moyes again and joins Chelsea or Citeh (I'd rather he came "home", of course, but that ain't happening).

The pity for Rooney (and us) was that he came to prominence in an era of Everton mediocrity.

If only he had been a part of the Catterick or Kendall eras he'd have really fulfilled his potential.
