Not A Transfer Rumour..... Wayne Rooney

Straight swap for Fellaini? :P (sorry if already done, ignore if so)

seems that people are sure he is going to Chelsea but seems odd that they would sell to a team that may just need a regular goalscorer to walk the league. So Moyes reign starts with the overturning of an announcement he has made that Rooney is staying and continues with possibly him denying them the title maybe even a spot in the top two. I still think a smart move for United would be a loan move to a team that could take points off their rivals, not enough imagination in the game for this to happen sadly and I think that they would insist on a deal that involved sale of one of our best players

Rooney and his advisor from the earliest time took a mercenary view of his career. He left Everton just about as soon as he could when in fact his career would probably have benefitted from a year or two more at Everton.
As a consequence I don't believe that he has ever truly fulfilled the potential he displayed as a youngster.
The fact that Utd are prepared to sell him as he reaches the age where he should be at his peak and for a figure reportedly as low as 25 is hard to credit.

Of course we also saw a couple of years ago where Rooney held Utd over a barrel and extracted an obscene amount of money from them. None of these things are likely to encourage loyalty in a profession where loyalty is scarce anyway.

Ironically,if Rooney now declared his intention to run down his contract and return in time to his first club/his first love it would really set the cat amongst the Utd pigeons.

Definitely think leaving when he did has meant that Rooney has never cpme close to fulfilling his potential. people can point to medals and just makes me even more sad at the priorities of modern football. The lad should have been providing more golden memories than any English footballer in my lifetime and it is starting to look like he will spend his prime as a bit part. HIs agent is really a disgrace to the game and easy to forget exactly how young Rooney was when Stretford got his hooks into the Rooney household.

I'd take that all day long.

I think this is a very intresting time in the Everton/Rooney saga. If he wants out at utd and leaves, then I think we'll really see whether Rooney has a burning desire and true Evertonian in him to come to us now or whether its "all about him" and he see's us as a last meal ticket when his legs have gone (gazza, ginola etc)

If he signs for a Chelsea, arsenal or Madrid, barca type team, they are gonna want a 4/5 yr deal out of him taking him to 32/33. Now I'd love Rooney back as much as anyone but IMO if he doesn't class us worthy at this stage then he doesn't deserve a retirement package at 32.

It really would be a "win for football" in this new era, if a player like Rooney decided on going to his boyhood club over money. And lets not forget his boyhood club are a very good side these days!

I'd be very suprised if utd would sell Rooney to Chelsea, city or arsenal. To much chance it would come back and bite them on the ass, making them look a little stupid. Unless one of those came in with a silly 50M bid or something...Utd, if they were to let him go would only do so to us or abroad IMO.

From Ireland so I wouldn't have followed that England team, only recollection of Gascoigne, as I'm 20, is of his time with Rangers where I'm pretty sure he played ahead of midfield and scored regularly. I'd class that as a forward
Can't you just admit that you made a mistake and that he was a midfielder? Don't you have any recollection of his time at everton when he played in midfield? It was after his time at rangers and you are an everton fan presumably.

He defo played for England as a striker. Him, Sheringham and Shearer, 3 forwards.... :dodgy:

I really don't understand the people on here holding out hope he might move back to us. He's on £200k a week! Even if we coukd somehow find the transfer fee we'd never be able to offer wages he'd accept.

He can either go to a club playing champions league football and challenge for trophies or come back to Everton on less than half the money!

I'm sure he wouldn't starve on £5m a year mate, especially with his £50 odd miliion sat in his bank account. Obviously it would come down to what he wanted, but imo having hero status in his home town for life is worth a lot more than money considering the amount he's already got.

You're right he wouldn't starve but there is zero chance of anyone accepting £80-£100k when they coukd earn £200k and challenge for trophies

Probably because maybe JUST maybe people like to believe that in football somewhere there's still a few players that might put money second to the chance to be a hero at there boyhood club.

All the things you say he's desperate for there he already receives at utd, yet he's not happy! We can offer him things that NO other club can!

I'm not saying its on, or he would sacrifice the money to come here just.....
Never Say Never!!
