im just guessing , but id imagine that now all the players are back and the pre seasons tours are underway ,with the amount of organisation and work, that the chance of signing a player at the moment is even less likely than it was last week or the week/month before that.

Regardless of whether it is probable or not, the fact remains that we are more likely to get into Europe by virtue of the fact that we are as likely to win a Cup or get in via Fair Play, but also have a chance of qualifying due to our position in the league. Just admit your original statement was inaccurate.

How was it inaccurate ? Just accept that you waded in with your size 14's without really thinking it through and misunderstood what i was saying. We've established that there are 4 ways to qualify for the Europa League, only one of which is based on points and league performance. My statement that they have as much chance as we do of qualifying for it is entirely true. If 3 teams that finished below us last season are in Europe this year, surely it says a lot for Newcastle, Sunderland and Villa's chances. 3 teams who are investing and spending to improve their squad in quality and size, more than can be said for us.

That is not inaccurate, we might have to agree to disagree on this one but if your so stubborn in your assertion that Everton will definitely finish above all 3 of those teams, matching last seasons efforts and achieving 7th place, and *also* that the European placing will definitely drop down to 7th, then i admire your confidence and i certainly hope your right.

Something happens once in a blue moon thus it is very likely for it to happen the year which follows ? That logic is sound.

I never said they will definitely do anything, i'm discussing probabilities, and it's sad that you're finding it so hard to grasp. So i'll break it down:

Everton, Newcastle, Sunderland, and Aston Villa all have an equally small chance of qualifying for Europe via Fair Play, or winning a Cup.

Everton are more likely to qualify for Europe than Newcastle and Sunderland via league positions as history, and our performances against them, show.

So if Everton are just as likely to qualify via Fair Play and a Cup Win, and are more likely to qualify in the traditional sense, how are they NOT more likely (even if only just) than Sunderland and Newcastle to qualify for Europe ?

It's not bloody rocket science.

Yes, but the wage bill is increasing, which is another reason for us to sell, releasing money for much needed wage funds.

I forgot to add that West Brom are another team below us who have yet to spend.

It's just occured to me that signing our key players to long term contracts not only protects us from them walking out on bosmans, it also means that their pay is effectively frozen. Neville has just signed a new deal, but who else is near the end of their current contract? Only Saha and Distin, I think. Do we want to give either 33 year old another term?

Its not neccesarily coz its the end of the contract, coz players are leaving for less with one year left(Gravesen, pienaar.) Felli has two years left so they are trying to tie him down so he cant leave for half his worth next summer. Im sure there are others in the same year a little more under the radar than felli.

What money?

"I think originally SSN said we'd bid £10 million, and then changed the story afterwards."

I thought by saying "they did" LCAB was saying we bid the money that Sky originally reported. Could have misunderstood though.

LCAB was confirming that Sky originally said we had bid £10mill before changing the story to us being "interested".
