Painful reading that bringing back memories of one of my worst days as an Evertonian! I am in the stand in the background of the Ball photograph in the shadow around half way. Traumatised just before 12th birthday and the Monday at school was absolute hell having also been told by PE teacher on the Friday I would never be selected for the school team again if I went to the semi instead of playing!!!! Ticket cost £3!!!!! Not a great week or so on top of elimination from the European Cup too. Sigh.

A gut-wrenching week, in the space of which we lost the prospect of facing both Cruyff and the Arse at Wembley. Only topped by the climax of the 1985-86 season.

Magnificent goal. What composure he had.
Andy Grays right foot half volley for the first wasn’t too bad either. Neither was Nevs savefrom Falco at the death.
Pivotal result in winning the league. It was us or Spurs
Got absolutely wellied afterwards in London
We went up to Wednesday the following Saturday and played poorly but Nev was brilliant again and we sneaked a 1-0 win
My own favourite away game, what a night!!

Like I said I was in the home section at the far end opposite the Everton fans. Gray scored into that goal. The look on his face when the ball sat up for him was an absolute picture. He knew what he was going to do and absolutely lashed it in from the edge of the box. There is film of it I am sure! In fairness to the Spurs fans around me they were very fair minded about the Everton fans jumping up and sporting at the end even though that was the end of their title hopes. Great night to be a Blue!!!!

Tbf night's like that don't get much better
I can still remember it. Couldn't get the smile off my face
Will we see similar before we for? Doubt it

My own favourite away game, what a night!!

..I mistakingly found myself with the Spurs fans but in a section at the side of the ground (I think it was called The Shelf). It was a great insight listening to them because they were very flattering about how good we were. It was a memorable night and a memorable performance, managed to find a boozer and have a few before heading back home. If I remember rightly, Spurs were in with a great chance to win the league themselves.

1971 S/F One of the first matches I recall as a kid 9 years old we were staying in Maghull at the time , Dad went to the match

this is the first time I recall being so gutted after being beaten especially it having to be by the other lot !

..what an underrated player Sharp was. I haven’t seen anybody technically better with their backs to goal.
When he scored that goal against Spurs it was one of those "blimey did I just see that ?" moments. But what was also true of Sharp imo was the steady way he developed his game over three seasons or so which is so important but hard to give these days of demands for instant and sustained impact. He was still learning his trade when Gray arrived to polish what was still a slightly rough diamond. He had talent but he definitely worked hard to better himself too. Excellent first touch and a real leader of the line. But also he played in an era of partnerships up front........!! Current managers please take note!!!
